From the Principal

This Monday evening our School Council will meet to elect office bearers for the 2022 school year and to welcome on board new councillors. I would like to thank our school councillors for their time and expertise over the last year, and acknowledge what a fantastic job School Council has done during that time. Completing anything during the COVID interruptions and restrictions is admirable, completing a major project like the Dry Creek Bed – in addition to the usual functions of School Council is extraordinary.

While it is still early in the year, it is time for families of students in Yr. 6 to consider Secondary School. Keep an eye out for open days and other forms of information that may be available from Secondary Schools. We will give each Yr. 6 student a placement information pack at the start of Term Two. We ask that Yr.7 2023 placement forms be returned to us by Friday 13th May.

Congratulations to Jack Gregory, one of our School Captains, who won first prize in the Howlong’s Got Talent competition on the weekend. Jack’s talent with guitar and voice clearly impressed the judges. Well done Jack!

Sports News

The House cross-country is taking place on Thursday, April 7, at the Yackandandah Sports park. The event will begin at 9am and we ask that students be dropped off at the sports park directly, after 8.40am, rather than going to school. The school bus will drop kids off at the sports park, and a teacher will walk with students from Before School Care, at 8.40am.

A draft timetable is below.

Students will be competing in their houses and are encouraged to wear their house colours for the day. Students should also wear appropriate footwear and bring their bag with snacks and water. Ribbons will be handed out for students who come 1st, 2nd or 3rd in their age group and gender. In the senior age groups (9/10, 11, 12/13) up to 10 runners from each classification can qualify for the District event. Students will need to demonstrate that they can run the course in a suitable time to qualify. The District event will be held in Yackandandah on Tuesday, May 3.

We do require several parents or carers to assist with supervision of the track on the day. This involves taking a position on the track to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all participants. If you are able to help with this, please complete the form at this link: https://forms.gle/CY4g6nNLvUrDHYDc8

Permission forms were sent home last week and need to be returned to school by Friday 25th March.  As this is a sporting event the local excursion permission form does not cover it.

OSHC News

This week in OSHC!
This week in OSHC, the children have been participating in all different sorts of activities before we head outside to enjoy the sunshine and some group games together. The first activity is The Kind Word Project. This allowed the children to work together in learning how to use kind words with each other. You can see our displays as you come into our OSHC space! The children are very proud of their work. This week the children got to make woollen woven turtles, this expanded their fine motor skills in a creative flare.

Vacation Care!
The school holidays are approaching fast! We have created a wonderful program for the children to come and enjoy. We have ideas like Spy day, where you come dressed as a spy and get to be a spy for the whole day. We also have Sensory Day, this will allow the children to indulge in some activities to ignite their senses. Footy day will be in the second week, you can wear your favourite footy teams colours and train like a player. We have our old favourites Cooking Day and Art Bonanza! During the first week the children will get to do a lot of Easter craft and create an Easter tree for the service. Some of our days in the program will have a small price to pay for supplies.
We can’t wait to see you all on the Holidays!

Paver Fundraiser

School Council are running a new fundraiser!

Money raised will support staff in implementing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) programs, including the purchasing of associated resources.

In exchange for a generous contribution of $50 to the new STEM Fund, a personalised engraved paver will be placed in the new Dry Creek Bed Play Space between the timber bridge and the pedestrian access gate onto High Street (photo below).  This area was meant to be paved in the original design, however we ran out of time last year!

Each paver can be personalised with up to three lines of text (maximum of 17 characters per line including spaces, all caps lock and centred on the paver).  Buy one for the whole family or one each!

But you’ll have to be quick – with a limited number of pavers available, we will sell out!  Don’t miss this opportunity to leave a long-lasting momento at Yack Primary!

 How to order:

  1. Complete the google form (one per paver) found here https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSc7D86Iur1PEgOP2gZeuLzbvJ5vrUxeJDM0KCcvZ-AYrqfDsQ/viewform
  2. Transfer payment ($50 per paver) to the school bank account (Westpac) including "PAVER: SURNAME" as the reference.

(The *NEW* Westpac bank account details are listed at the bottom of the google form)
  3. We will send you a confirmation email once your order has been processed.
