As we enter the final week of term it is worth pausing and remembering that this is the first full term of school that we have had since 2019. For children in Yr. 2 it is the first full term of school they have ever had. While this term has not had any remote learning, we have had higher than usual absences due to isolation requirements. With all this in mind I think that children, families and staff have done an excellent job maintaining positive attitudes and continuing their learning. Congratulations and thank you everyone.
Our first day back after the term holidays is Tuesday 26th April. On the day before (Monday 25th April – ANZAC day) the senior choir is singing at the ANZAC service in Memorial Gardens Yackandandah. Jenny has sent home a note with details, but please support your choir child to attend the service and be a part of the choir.
This Friday school finishes at 2:30. Assembly will be at 2:10.

Students have today taken home an envelope for the school photos which are being taken on Thursday 5th May. Instructions on how to order are on the envelope and below. Even if you order online the envelope needs to be returned to school before or on the 5th of May.
Envelopes for family photos have been attached to the eldest child’s form.
ANZAC Day 2022
The Senior Choir has again been asked to present a song at the Yackandandah town ANZAC service which will be held in the Yackandandah Memorial Gardens on Monday, 25th April. It would be terrific to see as many Senior Choir members there as possible.
This year, ANZAC Day falls on the Monday directly following the school holidays (the day before the start of Term two on Tuesday, 26th).
Choir members will meet the rest of the school at the bottom pub at 9:15 and walk the length of High Street to the Memorial Gardens where the service will take place at approximately 9:45.
Students are welcome to stand with their parents and carers during the ceremony and move to the stage or steps of the rotunda to sing. They will be singing one song, ‘Spirit of the ANZAC’s’, and lead the National Anthem.
Again, students are reminded to wear full school uniform with neat hair and no colourful scarves, earrings, or jewellery. If weather looks a little unpredictable, rain jackets might also be a good idea!
Thank you in advance to parents and carers for their support in bringing their children to this significant event.

We have exciting news! The Young Engineers program is coming to YPS in the first week of Term Two. Young Engineers offers a range of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) programs. It will be a hands on activity. The cost is $10 per participant as School Council are subsidising the full cost which is $25 per student. The activities centre around the students using a wide range of technic Lego and other technology and computer based equipment. This is the first step in us establishing our own STEM program with our own equipment.
The program will take place on Thursday and Friday and each session will run for approximately 75 minutes.

The House cross-country is taking place this Thursday, April 7, at the Yackandandah Sports park. The event will begin at 9am and we ask that students be dropped off at the sports park directly, after 8.40am, rather than going to school. The school bus will drop kids off at the sports park, and a teacher will walk with students from Before School Care, at 8.40am.
A draft timetable is below.
Students will be competing in their houses and are encouraged to wear their house colours for the day. Students should also wear appropriate footwear and bring their bag with snacks and water. Please note: students compete in age groups, not year levels, with the age of a child being determined by the age they will be at the end of this calendar year (31/12/22). Foundation students will run with their buddy. Ribbons will be handed out for students who come 1st, 2nd or 3rd in their age group and gender. In the senior age groups (9/10, 11, 12/13) up to 10 runners from each classification can qualify for the District event. Students will need to demonstrate that they can run the course in a suitable time to qualify. The District event will be held in Yackandandah on Tuesday, May 3.

Vacation Care!
School Holidays are approaching fast! Be sure to book your children in as soon as possible! The glitch on the app has been fixed so you should be able to select Vacation Care when booking in. If you are having any troubles with bookings, please feel free to email us and we are more than happy to help book your children in.
School Council are running a new fundraiser!
Money raised will support staff in implementing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) programs, including the purchasing of associated resources.
In exchange for a generous contribution of $50 to the new STEM Fund, a personalised engraved paver will be placed in the new Dry Creek Bed Play Space between the timber bridge and the pedestrian access gate onto High Street (photo below). This area was meant to be paved in the original design, however we ran out of time last year!
Each paver can be personalised with up to three lines of text (maximum of 17 characters per line including spaces, all caps lock and centred on the paver). Buy one for the whole family or one each!
But you’ll have to be quick – with a limited number of pavers available, we will sell out! Don’t miss this opportunity to leave a long-lasting momento at Yack Primary!
How to order:
