Welcome back to school for Term Two. Congratulations to the school choir for their beautiful singing at the Anzac Day Service on Monday. A wreath was laid by our school captains on behalf of Yackandandah Primary School at the 10am service.

There are a few things of note taking place this term. The Smile Squad dental service is on site from today providing consultations and dental services to children who have returned consent forms. They will be on site for some time carrying out this service. You may have noticed a new shade structure that is nearing completion beside the Yr. 3/4 classrooms in the north-east corner of the school. This structure will provide shade and wet weather shelter for students and also for families who are picking up children at the end of the day. There will also be roofing works taking place to deal with a couple of pesky leaks, commencing early May. We are aiming for all these works to have as little impact as possible on the day to day operations of the school.

NAPLAN testing takes place in early May. Students in Yrs. 3& 5 will sit the NAPLAN test. The NAPLAN test covers some literacy and numeracy skills – we use the test data to provide us some extra information on learning trends. While it is one of the main tools used to evaluate education across the country, it is of less value for determining individual learning strengths and weaknesses due to its limited and one off nature. The best gauge of individual learning is the day to day learning that takes place in the classroom.

There have been some changes to covid safe practices in schools. Masks are no longer required, though staff and students are encouraged to wear them if they wish. Additionally, household contacts of positive covid cases are not required to isolate – provided they have no symptoms and conduct daily rapid antigen tests with negative results. We have a supply of RATS at school for any families that require them.

Finally, a reminder that hats are still required. We expect hats to be worn until the UV rating falls below 3 – it is still peaking above 4 during the day.

Family Statements
Family statements for school and kinder fees were emailed out at the end of last term.  The school statements only show any excursion/incursion costs for events that are happening.

Thank you to all the families who have paid the 2022 Curriculum contributions. Yackandandah Primary School rely on these financial contributions to assist us with the purchasing of art, music and physical education equipment and resources, which in turn, supports us in offering specialist French, Music and Art classes.  These contributions also enable us to enrich learning as well as provide camps and excursions for students.

Due to Department guidelines, we are unable to show the Curriculum contributions on the family statements until after they are paid.

A summary of the suggested voluntary financial contributions is below.  When paying please ensure you put your name and 2022 contributions in the reference.

Term 2, here we come!

The Term 2 hot lunch meals will begin in week two, Friday 6th of May, and the meals are;

Once you have submitted the form, a confirmation email will be sent to you.  Please count how many lunches you have ordered and multiply it by $5, total amounts can be deposited into the  school bank account.

On Tuesday 3^rd May the F/1/2 classes will travel to Albury to visit MAMA (Murray Art Museum Albury), the Library Museum and the Albury Botanic Gardens.  We will be leaving school at 9.15am and returning to school by 3pm. 

Cost per student attending is $10.  Permission forms were sent home the last week of Term One. If you have not yet returned the form please do so tomorrow.  Please indicate on the form if you would like to use CSEF money (if you are eligible) or credit from your family account.

A reminder that school photos will be taken on Thursday 5^th May.  Students took home an order form the last week of Term One.  Instructions on how to order are on the envelope and below.  Even if you order online the envelope needs to be returned to school before or on the 5^{th of} May.

Envelopes for family photos have been attached to the eldest child’s form.

Senior Choir at ANZAC Day

Yesterday, members of the Senior Choir gathered at the Memorial Gardens to sing as part of the town ANZAC ceremony. Again we were very honoured to be included in the program and the choir sang beautifully! They certainly made the school community, and myself, very proud.

A big thank you to our wonderful singers and also to parents and families who made the effort to bring their children along and to attend themselves.

House Cross Country
Congratulation to Kars who took out the whole school cross-country championship at the end of Term 1. It was a great morning down at the sports park, with all students competing to the best of their ability and earning points for their house.

Help Needed
A big thank you to all of the parents and carers who helped out on the day. We are looking for more parent helpers for next Tuesday as Yackandandah Primary School organises and hosts the District Cross-Country event. If you are able to help out, please let Sandra or Brendan know. We need about 6 parent helpers, especially at the finish line, to make the day run smoothly. The event will run from 10.15am until 1pm.

District Cross-Country
We are taking a squad of almost 60 students with us to the District Cross-Country which will be held  at the Yackandandah Sports Park, next Tuesday, May 3. Permission forms will be sent home today and will need to be returned by Friday. Unlike the House Cross-Country, students are not to go straight to the sports park, as the first race is not until 10.30am. A timetable for events is below:

Students in Year 6 have today taken home a Year 6 to Year 7 Placement Information pack. 

The Application for Year 7 Placement 2023 form needs to be returned to the Primary school by Friday 13^th May.

If your child will be attending a Non-government school (Catholic or independent school) please ensure you complete Section 5.

The Junior School Council are proud to announce that the casual clothes day raised $376.60! This money will go towards the installation of a bubbler on the oval. The class that raised the most money was 3/4A! Well done to all students who donated! Congratulations to the Junior School Council for organising this event and a special thank you to Jack Summons and Marliah Barnes, who spent their breaks on the last day of school counting and bagging the money! Amazing work!

School Council are running a new fundraiser!

Money raised will support staff in implementing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) programs, including the purchasing of associated resources.

In exchange for a generous contribution of $50 to the new STEM Fund, a personalised engraved paver will be placed in the new Dry Creek Bed Play Space between the timber bridge and the pedestrian access gate onto High Street (photo below).  This area was meant to be paved in the original design, however we ran out of time last year!

Each paver can be personalised with up to three lines of text (maximum of 17 characters per line including spaces, all caps lock and centred on the paver).  Buy one for the whole family or one each!

But you’ll have to be quick – with a limited number of pavers available, we will sell out!  Don’t miss this opportunity to leave a long-lasting momento at Yack Primary!
