We are very excited to be taking Years 3/4/5/6 to Shepparton on an Art Excursion to visit the new Shepparton Art Museum (SAM) on Monday 23rd May. SAM is an incredible $50 million public building, that spans 5 levels with multiple exhibition spaces, public art and installations, café, shop, outdoor amphitheatre and terrace, visitors centre and Indigenous Art Gallery/Shop.

https://greatershepparton.com.au/community/arts/sam
It is an exciting opportunity for our students to undertake an art excursion of this scale, as we haven’t had one in two years! The visit to SAM and workshops is free, so the cost is only for the bus trip, which is quite high. I’m very thankful to the school for subsiding the cost of the bus to bring the cost down to $20 per child.
Students are to be at school at 7.45am for an 8.00am departure.
Three buses will travel to Shepparton, departing YPS at 8am sharp and arriving back in Yackandandah at approximately 4.30pm.
Buses will drop YPS staff and students at Victoria Park Lake Playground upon arrival in Shepparton for morning recess, before walking approx. 500m to SAM nearby.
YPS students and staff will spend 3 hours at SAM undertaking tours of multiple exhibitions, the building, art workshops and activities. Students will be split into 3 groups for the visit to SAM, and rotate through the exhibitions and workshops/activities, and lunch break.
At the conclusion of the Museum visit, students will have an opportunity for a short break and a final snack on the outdoor terrace and amphitheatre, before boarding buses for the return trip to Yackandandah.
Parent helpers are always welcome on excursions, and we have spaces for four parents to join us. Please contact me to secure your seat! It will be a great day! sarah.mcalister@education.vic.gov.au
Parent helpers must hold a current WWCC and be fully vaccinated.
Permission forms have been sent home tonight and need to be returned by Monday 16th May, Please indicate on the form if you would like to use CSEF money (if you are eligible) or credit from your family account.
More details to follow in the coming weeks.

This week in OSHC!
Welcome back to school everyone! This week in OSHC we have set up the ping pong table. All of the children have been battling each other. We are very happy to see that our older children are helping our foundations with their ping pong skills. We hope to continue to see the children’s hand eye coordination skills develop. When we were not inside engaging in the ping pong table, we were outside as much as possible to enjoy the lovely cooler weather. During this time the children would play group games together. This was a great time to build the team work skills.
Friendly reminder.
During vacation care, there were a few times children had entered the service without their parents. We kindly ask that you accompany your children into the service to sign them in and out.
Thanks, OSHC Team.
Help Needed
We still need 2 or 3 more adult helpers to assist with the cross-country. This includes timing races and handing out place cards at the finish line. Please email Brendan directly if you can assist: brendan.hogan@education.vic.gov.au
District Cross-Country
We are taking a squad of more than 60 students with us to the District Cross-Country which will be held at the Yackandandah Sports Park, tomorrow, Tuesday, May 3. If you haven’t already done so, please return permission forms. Unlike the House Cross-Country, students are not to go straight to the sports park, as the first race is not until 10.30am. A timetable for events is below:
10.30am 9/10 girls (2km)
10.50am 9/10 boys (2km)
11.10am 11 girls (3km)
11.35am 11 boys (3km)
12.00 noon 12/13 girls (3km)
12.25pm 12/13 boys (3km)
Students will need to wear appropriate footwear and school uniform, and bring along any food or snack. We will be returning to school at about 1.30pm.

Young Engineers
BEEP, BOP, BUILD! Those were some of the things happening when we built dancing robots with, Shwetta, from Young Engineers.
Firstly, we learnt quite a lot about engineering and what engineers do. Did you know, engineers don’t always construct things, sometimes, they can design plans and blue prints?
Next, we got an opportunity to pick a partner that we could work with. We got given a tray of Lego and a tablet which had step by step instructions on how to build the robot. It was quite exciting to be building Lego at school (let’s be honest, it not something we would normally do). Although it fun, we found it was a bit tricky and fiddly to pick up those tiny pieces and put them together.
Once our robots were connected to the motor and standing up, Shwetta taught us how to instruct our robots to dance using a coding system.
It was incredibly fascinating to watch our robots sway from side to side. Even though it was challenging at times, we felt proud of our achievement.
There was a buzz in the playground on that day, with all the kids talking about what they had made. F/1 made washing machines, 1/2 made conveyor belts, 3/4 made dancing robots and 5/6 made twirling carousels.

School Council are running a new fundraiser!
Money raised will support staff in implementing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) programs, including the purchasing of associated resources.
In exchange for a generous contribution of $50 to the new STEM Fund, a personalised engraved paver will be placed in the new Dry Creek Bed Play Space between the timber bridge and the pedestrian access gate onto High Street (photo below). This area was meant to be paved in the original design, however we ran out of time last year!
Each paver can be personalised with up to three lines of text (maximum of 17 characters per line including spaces, all caps lock and centred on the paver). Buy one for the whole family or one each!
But you’ll have to be quick – with a limited number of pavers available, we will sell out! Don’t miss this opportunity to leave a long-lasting momento at Yack Primary!
How to order:
1st May – Angus M’Crystal
3rd May – Nicholas Shepherd
4th May – Aiden Hillier
6th May – Sharni Barnes
The Old Beechworth Gaol is seeking two awesome hospitality legends to join our café / bike hub crew! This opportunity is great if you want to be able to drop off and pick up the kids with the hours being predominantly within school hours.
Not only is the Old Beechworth Gaol a historical site right in the centre of Beechworth, it is also a growing community of individuals working under the one roof. In addition to the organisations who work onsite, we have many local patrons frequenting the site daily for their morning coffee and tourists going on guided tours and getting happy snaps outside the gates. We are programming more and more onsite with local talent focusing on some arts and cultural events.
While the daily historical tours and café offerings are some of our core businesses, we also have a growing bike hub with e-mountain bike hire, a meeting place to start and end a bike ride around the region and development in the pipeline to grow this space.
Should you want more, this opportunity has room to grow and develop your hospitality skills with more arts and cultural events, night tours, tour guiding etc.
Please check out the link HERE for more information.
Get in touch today as we’d love to hear from YOU!
Kind regards,
The Old Beechworth Gaol Team
