Roofing works are still taking place at school. The works may continue for some weeks, we appreciate your patience with temporary fencing. You will also notice that the new shade structure is finished on the Hammond St end of the school. Picnic seating has been ordered for the area and should be in place soon. Families are welcome to use the area at the end of the day while waiting to pick up children at 3:30.
NAPLAN week has now concluded, though there is the opportunity this week for children who missed tests to catch up and complete them. Congratulations to the students in Yrs. 3&5 who took the tests in their stride.
This week is the last week of the paver fundraiser. Don’t miss this chance to get a personalised paver in our Dry Creek Bed area. Details in the rest of the newsletter.

We are very excited to be taking Years 3/4/5/6 to Shepparton on an Art Excursion to visit the new Shepparton Art Museum (SAM) on Monday 23rd May.
If you have not yet had a look at SAM, check it out here:

I’m finalising the last details for the excursion this week, and for this reason we need all permission forms returned to school by tomorrow, Tuesday 17th May. Permission forms have been sent home again today for those we are waiting on.
Students are to be at school at 7.45am for an 8.00am departure, on Monday 23rd May.
Three buses will travel to Shepparton, departing YPS at 8am sharp and arriving back in Yackandandah at approximately 4.30pm.
Buses will drop YPS staff, parent helpers and students at Victoria Park Lake Playground upon arrival in Shepparton for morning recess, before walking approx. 500m to SAM nearby.
YPS students, staff and parent helpers will spend 3 hours at SAM undertaking tours of multiple exhibitions, the building, art workshops and activities. Students will be split into 3 groups for the visit to SAM, and rotate through the exhibitions and workshops/activities, and lunch break.
At the conclusion of the Museum visit, students will have an opportunity for a short break and a final snack on the outdoor terrace and amphitheatre, before boarding buses for the return trip to Yackandandah.
Thank you to the parent and grandparent helpers who have offered to assist and join in the fun for the day! If you are a parent interested in coming along for the day, please let me know, as we have 2 more vacancies and would love more helpers. If you’re interested please contact me sarah.mcalister@education.vic.gov.au
An information sheet will be sent home with students before the end of the week, with further details.

Woah! Sausage roll week had some BIG orders to fill. The ovens worked over time and we had some very happy customers.
This week we have our PIE week, made and cooked by Beechworth Bakery, another very popular meal.
I have also made some time, this week, to set up a composting system for our school. This will allow us to process onsite, any organic waste generated during hot lunches. Watch this space.

This week in OSHC, we experienced quite a lot of wet and miserable weather. This gave the educators a chance to put our thinking caps on! The educators planned and implemented some very creative activities inside at our creation station. The children painted, glued, taped and created lots of beautiful art. This art work is hung up on our display for all to see. The boys on Friday afternoon worked together to make a ramp for their monster trucks. They launched them high into the air and cheered as they landed.
This is a friendly reminder to parents to please have open commuincation between the OSHC staff and or the school when booking your children in. Please find our phone number listed below. If we do not answer straight away, one of our friendly educators will get back to you as soon as we can. We can get a little busy during sign in times.
When it comes to bookings, we require 24 hours to cancel or change bookings. You can do this through your Xplor Home app or by contacting us at OSHC. If your child is a no show, unfortunately you will be charged.
Phone: 0481 297 717.
Thanks, OSHC Team
HELPERS NEEDED - JUNIOR SCHOOL COUNCIL COLOUR RUN 2022!!!
We will be having a Colour Run on Wednesday the 22nd June at 2:30pm!
We will be celebrating FREEDOM, DIFFERENCE AND COMMUNITY. Students can start searching their drawers and wardrobes for white clothing to wear on the day – you can wear an old white t-shirt, a button up shirt, leggings, shorts – whatever you like, it doesn’t have to be new! More details to come as the day draws closer.
The Junior School Council and I would LOVE your help in the lead up to the event and on the day!! Please email Lauren if you’re interested in helping make this event happen: Lauren.Roberts3@education.vic.gov.au
Yours in colour,
Lauren and the JSC
Yackandandah Primary School has several positions available. Please contact Michael Edwards if you are interested in any of them.
All positions require a current Working With Children check and for applicants to be fully vaccinated.
School Council Fundraiser closing 27th May!
Money raised will support staff in implementing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) programs, including the purchasing of associated resources.
In exchange for a generous contribution of $50 to the new STEM Fund, a personalised engraved paver will be placed in the new Dry Creek Bed Play Space between the timber bridge and the pedestrian access gate onto High Street (photo below). This area was meant to be paved in the original design, however we ran out of time last year!
Each paver can be personalised with up to three lines of text (maximum of 17 characters per line including spaces, all caps lock and centred on the paver). Buy one for the whole family or one each!
But you’ll have to be quick – with a limited number of pavers available, we will sell out! Don’t miss this opportunity to leave a long-lasting momento at Yack Primary!
How to order:
16th May – Mia Lockett
16th May – Edward Crispin
17th May – Hunter Wall
