From the Principal

Today the Yr. 5/6 teachers, students and parent volunteers left for Sovereign Hill. They will enjoy the Sovereign Hill experience and return to school on Wednesday evening – approximately 8pm. On Wednesday morning the Yr. 3/4 students, teachers and parents will depart for Melbourne for their school camp. I am very grateful to the teachers for organising and giving their extra time to make the camps possible. I am also very thankful that we have parents who are willing to give their time and support.

Congratulations to School Captain Jack Gregory on an amazing second place in the 16 years and under ‘own composition’ section of the Albury/Wodonga Eisteddfod. Jack sang and played his own song ‘Big Fish’ and achieved a very high score. Well done Jack!

From the Office

Permission forms
Swimming permission forms were due back last Friday.  New ones have been sent home tonight with student’s who have not yet returned them.

Excursion/Camp payments
A reminder that payments for camps and excursions are on a user pays basis and payment is required before the activity unless other arrangements have been made.  The school has subsidised the camps and the majority of the other activities that have been offered to students to make it affordable to families.  There are additional support options available based on need.  Please contact myself or Michael for more information.

Enjoy your week, Sandra

Sports News

The House Athletic sports are taking place on Thursday, August 25th  at the Les O’Brien Athletics Precinct in  Albury. The back up day is Monday, August 29th.   Buses will be leaving school at 9am and returning by 3.30pm.  There is no cost for this event as it is part of the Curriculum Contributions that parents have been invited to pay.  Permission forms have been sent home last week and need to be returned to school by Monday 15th August.

House Athletics Help Needed

To help make this day a success, we do need the assistance of many parents, carers and other adults on the day. Like last year, helpers will not be following particular groups around, but will be stationed at an event and assisting as different groups move through. Don’t worry, no experience is necessary. Even if you can only assist for a small amount of time, please let us know, as the viability of this event relies on enough adult helpers.

If you can help, please complete the form at this link: https://forms.gle/fxsSD2k2PLmxwK7M8

Information for the Competitors

  • The carnival will be held at the athletics track in Albury – part of the Les O’Brien Sports precinct.
  • First events will begin at 10am. A more detailed timetable will be sent home in coming weeks.
  • There is no canteen available on the day, so please bring plenty of food and drink.
  • Be sure to wear your ‘house’ colours and weather appropriate clothing, such as a hat if it is sunny. If you are not sure of your ‘house’ colour, check with you teacher.
  • Children compete at the age they will be by the 31st of December, 2022. So, if a child is currently 8, but turning 9 by the end of the year, they will compete in the 9/10-year-old age group.
  • Although genders may be mixed for some groups, competitors are only competing against children of their own age and gender. This year, because of numbers, 9 and 10-year-olds will be split into different groups. For the purposes of qualifying for the District event, results will be cross-checked, with first and second place overall making it through to the next level.
  • Ribbons are awarded for 1st, 2nd & 3rd for each event, with everyone who participates in an event, earning points for their ‘house’.
  • 5-8 year-olds will compete in: sprint running, distance running, long jump, soft shot, vortex throw, jumping sack race, bean bag race or possibly mini-hurdles, and ‘bounce, catch, and run’.
  • 9-13 year-olds will compete in: sprint running, distance running (200m), long jump, shot put, discus, high jump, triple jump, and hurdles. These events act as qualifying for the District Athletics Carnival, due to take place on September 7. As a general rule, students who place first and second for their age group and gender, will qualify for District, but only the first placed competitor will qualify for high jump and 200m.  Qualification for 800m and 1500m will take place at school. At the District Carnival, competitors can enter 5 individual events and 1 relay.

Thanks Brendan.
