Last Thursday was the House Athletics Carnival. Once again it was great to see the level of participation and support among the students. I was most impressed with the way in which children supported each other and encouraged each other to do their best. As usual, Brendan had the organisation down to a fine art. He was supported by the students, teachers and a large number of parent volunteers. Thank you to all who helped out to make the day a success. Congratulations to Kars House on winning the day. A large number of students will participate in the District Sports day at the same venue on Wednesday 7th September.
It's time to enrol for 2023. If you have a child who is starting school in 2023 it is time to complete the enrolment forms and hand them in to the office. Forms can be collected from the school at any time. If you have any questions or wish to organise a school tour please contact Michael or Sandra at the school office.

Camps & Excursions
There are still a few families who haven’t yet paid for the school camps and other activities/excursions that their child have participated in. An email will be sent home to these families this week.
OSHC Statements
OSHC statements are sent home fortnightly and need to be paid on receipt of the statement to keep the account up to date.
School Contributions
Thank you to all the families who have paid the 2022 Curriculum contributions. Yackandandah Primary School rely on these financial contributions to assist us with the purchasing of art, music and physical education equipment and resources, which in turn, supports us in offering specialist French, Music and Art classes. These contributions also enable us to enrich learning as well as provide camps and excursions for students.
Due to Department guidelines, we are unable to show the Curriculum contributions on the family statements until after they are paid.
A summary of the suggested voluntary financial contributions is below. When paying please ensure you put your name and 2022 contributions in the reference.

Bright coloured shirts sprint to far off finish lines. Long, lengthy, legs leap over huge, hefty hurdles. Horrifying, heavy shot puts make smooth dents in the sand. This was the 2022 Yackandandah Primary School House Athletics Carnival.
All you could hear was the screaming of kids cheering for their teams and making sure that the neighbours twenty blocks down could hear us. Every throw, every jump, every step counted. Your jump could make your team win; that’s how close it was. Only three points separated the top two houses. But there could only be one winner…
Hammond was left in 4th place with 506 points, and surprisingly, Wellsford in 3rd, making their 6-year winning streak over with 532 points. In second place was Windham with a whopping 542 points, and that means that Kars took the trophy home this year with 545 points.
Thanks to all the parent helpers who made this day possible, along with the teachers and staff who put in the work on the day and leading up to the event. And finally, thanks to all the students for trying their best.

District Athletics
The District event is being held in Albury (same venue as the House aths) next Wednesday, September 7. The back-up day will be September 14. At this stage, entries are still being finalised, with those students trying out for the 800m doing so on Wednesday. We will be taking a bus and permission forms will go out after that. Most kids should already know if they have made it through, based on the provisional results posted in the courtyard today.

Wednesday 14 September is our Book Week Dress-up Day!
How are your costumes coming along? If you would like to come along and check out all the great characters in their costumes, we’ll hold a parade at 9am-9.30am in the courtyard as usual on the day. If your child is having trouble deciding on a character, ask them to think back over the past 12 months about books they’ve enjoyed with interesting characters. Or can they come dressed as non-fiction character this year? We have so many fantastic new non-fiction books in the library that might inspire!
We’ve got a week of exciting activities planned for the students, including LEGO STEM/Literacy sessions, art activities, a Book Week Kahoot! and a Second-hand book sale.
Book Sale 2022!
As mentioned above, I will again be running a second-hand book stall on Tuesday 13 September as part of our week-long Book Week celebrations, to raise money for the library. Please consider donating to the school, any children’s books you might be finished with, instead of taking them to the op shop. Books on sale will be 20c, 50c, $1 or $2.
Missing Books
The library is STILL missing two copies of Once by Morris Gleitzman (see picture below). Once is the first book of many in this very popular series. I’d dearly love them back so students can start reading it! Can you please check bookshelves, under beds, school bags…thank you!
Have a wonderful week of reading!

Another “Bluebird” day greeted the 5/6 skiers last Friday. It was great to be joined by a number of students from Osbornes Flat Primary School to make connections and strengthen friendships with other local children. The skills of our students quickly progressed under the supervision of our parent helpers (thanks Natalie, Adena, Andre, Paige, Matt, Jared, Melissa and Colin) and the ski instructors. A huge thanks is also due to Caz for her capable support and enthusiasm, and Lauren who made sure the day ran stress free for everyone and provided first aid when required. It is also worth mentioning the excellent service we received from SkiPlus in Mt Beauty who equipped us all super efficiently and helped to ensure the day ran smoothly.
If you borrowed any of the school’s gear, please return this ASAP. Likewise, if you have found extra bits and pieces of clothing or other gear in your child’s bag, please bring these items to school so they can be reunited with their owner.
Year 6 students now have a ski card which they can potentially use for future visits to the snow. It will need to be converted from a school group card to a personal card, but will save you $5. The cards of Year 5 students will be kept at school until next year.
Students in Year 6 who are attending Beechworth Secondary College next year will be participating in a Half Day experience at the college on Friday 2nd September. Students will be travelling to Beechworth by bus under the supervision of BSC staff and will be supervised by their staff during the morning. A staff member from YPS is not required to attend. The bus will be leaving school at 9am and returning at 12.10pm.
There is no cost for this excursion. Permission forms have been sent home tonight and need to be returned to school by Wednesday.
If your child is attending BSC next year or you are still unsure on what school they will be going to and you didn’t receive a permission form please let Sandra know.
The students who have ordered hot lunch will be able to have theirs when they return.
Vacation Care
We are still facing staff shortages in our Out of School Hours Care service. The staff we have are giving their all, but there are just not enough to run a Vacation Care program over the next holidays. For any families that may rely on vacation care I suggest seeking a place in a different program sooner rather than later. Here is a link to some services that are operating vacation care over the next holidays – there may be more options in different locations. https://www.careforkids.com.au/vacation-care/wodonga/3690
We will be running Vacation Care again when we have sufficient staff. If you know of anyone who may be interested in working in our OSHC service please let Michael or Sandra know.
Yackandandah Primary School is seeking an enthusiastic OSHC Co-ordinator to manage our OSHC program.
