Welcome back to Yackandandah Primary School for Term Four. We are excited to finish this school year positively and build on the fantastic efforts of students, staff and families throughout the year. There is much to celebrate about the children’s learning, but what energises me the most is the overall positive mindset and motivation that children are bringing to their learning. While this is difficult to measure (and therefore gets little attention) it has a large impact on a child’s learning and wellbeing. I am always pleased to see children and teachers acknowledging personal achievements and personal learning goals met, rather than making comparisons against artificial levels or grades. And it’s working!
The Division Athletics is scheduled for this Friday. Brendan and one other staff member will accompany the children who are attending by bus to this event. Friday is looking a little dodgy weather wise at the moment so be prepared for the possibility that the event may be shifted to the backup day, next Monday. Good luck to the competitors!
Don’t forget the working bee this Sunday at school, starting at 10am. There will be a number of yard maintenance jobs to be done including pruning, spreading mulch, topping up sand pits, weeding and some other minor maintenance jobs. We are aiming to have either pizza or sausage sizzle to fuel the volunteers and families. Look out for an email for a reminder and further information in the next couple of days.
We are seriously short of staff for our OSHC and AKC program. OSHC is a service that School Council is keen to continue as a way of supporting our families, but without more staff we run the risk of having to limit or close the service. Please help spread the word that we require staff for Before School Care, After School Care and After Kinder Care, including a service coordinator. Ideally people would have a Diploma in Child Care or equivalent or at least a Cert 3 in child related work or equivalent – or be in the process of achieving those qualifications. These courses can now be accessed free of charge. Contact Michael or Sandra at school if you have any questions or leads for staff.

Absences
Don’t forget that if your child is absent from school the office needs to be notified with a reason so the absence is recorded correctly. The quick and easy way to do this is by “Registering an Absence" via the attached link https://www.yackaps.vic.edu.au/page/203 or by clicking on the following icon which is found at the bottom of the home page of the newsletter.
Alternatively you may email the school at yackandandah.ps@education.vic.gov.au
Late Arrivals/Early Departures
A reminder that if your child arrives at school after 9am or is being picked up before 3.30pm they must be signed in or out at the office. If there is an emergency at school we need to know which students are onsite.
Family Statements
Family statements for school and kinder fees will be emailed out this week, The school statements only show extra-curricular items and activities such as any excursion/camp costs for events that your child has participated in or will be participating in. If you have any outstanding costs showing payment would be greatly appreciated as these activities are on a user pays basis.
Voluntary Financial Contributions
Thank you to all the families who have paid the 2022 Curriculum contributions. Yackandandah Primary School rely on these financial contributions to assist us with the purchasing of art, music and physical education equipment and resources, which in turn, supports us in offering specialist French, Music and Art classes. These contributions also enable us to enrich learning as well as provide camps and excursions for students.
Due to Department guidelines, we are unable to show the Curriculum contributions on the family statements until after they are paid.
A summary of the suggested voluntary financial contributions is below. When paying please ensure you put your name and 2022 contributions in the reference. If you are unsure if you have paid please send me an email.
Enjoy your week,
Sandra

Upper Hume Division Athletics Carnival
Division athletics are taking place this Friday, October 7, in Albury at the Les O’Brien Athletics Precinct. Remember, the bus is leaving at 8.30am. Students competing received their permission forms at the end of last term. These need to be returned ASAP. Thanks to those who have already done so. Cost per student is $10.
Other information was also sent home, including a list of entrants and a time table of events. The current forecast for Friday is a good chance of rain. Should the event be postponed, an announcement will most likely be made after the 7am news on ABC local radio. The back-up day is Monday, October 10.
We know that everyone will do their best on the day and we wish them every success.
Brendan
Students in Year 3 and 4 created an exhibition titled “Museum of Stories” in the final week of Term Three. As you can see in the photos, this exhibition was very well attended by parents and other students in the school.
Each student was asked to think about an object that is special to them and craft a story from this object’s perspective. The object was put on display with a QR code that took visitors to a recording of the story read by each child. We had stories of medals won, pets lost and special gifts that had been crafted with love. Many of the stories were moving, some funny, and all of them unique to the young authors who created them.
A note of thanks goes to the parents who were able to find the time to come along and support our learners.
