From the Principal

I would like to say a huge thank you to Paul & Trish Anderson for coordinating our school’s role in the Yackandandah Community Street fest – including the preparation and lead up organisation over a considerable time. Hundreds of gourmet burgers were prepared, distributed and devoured with gusto. A huge thanks also to all the parent and teacher volunteers who gave their time and energy preparing, cooking, distributing, cleaning and packing up. We very much appreciate your energy and time. Well done all!

Congratulations to the students who competed in the Division Swimming on Friday. Once again our students participated with great spirit and skill. There were 19 swimmers representing Yackandandah Primary School with 13 now eligible to compete at the Regional Championships. Amazing effort from everyone!

I have received four nominations for School Council. As there are four positions available there is no need for an election. Congratulations to Janine Lerch, Matt Flower, Chris Summons and Sarah Crispin. I am grateful to these four parents for offering to serve on school council, and I am certain they will do a terrific job providing their guidance. Their term will begin at the March meeting of school council – March 20th.

I encourage parents to consider getting a volunteer Working With Children Check (WWCC). There is no cost and it is a handy thing to have if you ever want to volunteer at schools, sporting clubs or any event that may involve children. Here is the link if you would like to get your WWCC.

We have a few excess tables at school. If you could use a table like this at home please drop in and see Michael.

Social & Emotional Learning

We are Learners

We all have different smarts because we all have different brains and bodies. My smarts may not be the same as yours and that’s ok. There are many ways we can be smart: number smart, nature smart, word smart, people smart, body smart or even musically smart. This week in SEL, we extended our learning and created some smart charts. Some of which will be displayed on the SEL board in the school library. You may like to ask your child what their smarts are.

For the Foundation/Year 1 students, we met one of Stace’s friends (not Patsy). We met Bella the Butterfly. Sometimes, she tucks her wings inside when its morning drop-off time because she feels sad, shy and scared. To help, she takes a deep breath, gives her loved one ONE last squeeze hug, says goodbye, puts her bag away and gets on with the day. When she does this, her wings spread and she is happy. We talked about Bella’s feelings and how brave she can be. Bella may be able to help those who are feeling a little unsure during morning drop off time.

‘It’s not how smart you are that matters, what really counts is knowing how you are smart.’ Howard Gardner
