Congratulations to all the children on a great Folk Festival Parade. The wearable art, the drumming and the excitement of kicking off another Folk Festival after years of delay was amazing.
Please join me in saying a huge thank you to Paul and Trish Anderson for coordinating and working on the Saturday night dinner provided by Yackandandah Primary School. Paul and Trish have been preparing for weeks, giving up their free time to make the event a successful fundraiser for the school.
Of course, Paul and Trish were not working alone. Thanks to all those who contributed both on the day and in the leadup. There are too many to mention, and I would be afraid that I would miss someone, so a wide ranging thanks to everyone for their time and support in the many ways that people helped us out. Shout out also to those who got out of bed very early on Sunday morning to assist with the market setup. Much appreciated.
There are now only two weeks of term left – time flies when you are having fun. A reminder that the final day is Thursday 6th April (cross country day) which will finish at 2:30.

The popular pie option was a welcomed treat last week, kicking off a wonderful weekend of local festivities! This week we are back on the BBQ with Bacon/Mushroom, Lettuce and Tomato Burgers.
We are sad to see our local butcher CC's quality meats relocate back to Beechworth, they have provided wonderful customer service to our school. We hope to continue to be able to purchase their meat products through the weekly delivery service that they are offering Yackandandah.

Last week was Harmony Week. In SEL, we talked about how everyone belongs at YPS, no matter what you look like or where you’re from. The students talked about all the ways in which we are different. Some examples were eye colour, personalities, fingerprints, likes/dislikes, families and learning abilities. We decided that it’s important to accept differences and include others. In the Junior years, we read the picture book, Room on our Rock by Jol and Kate Temple. And, as a whole school, we also learned some Key Word Sign to use when communicating with some students in the yard. You might ask your child to show you the sign for ‘hello’ and ‘how are you?’.

The House cross-country is taking place on Thursday, April 6, at the Yackandandah Sports park. The event will begin at 9am and we ask that students be dropped off at the sports park directly, after 8.40am, rather than going to school. The school bus will drop kids off at the sports park, and a teacher will walk with students from Before School Care, at 8.40am.
A draft timetable is below.
Students will be competing in their houses and are encouraged to wear their house colours for the day. Students should also wear appropriate footwear and bring their bag with snacks and water. Ribbons will be handed out for students who come 1st, 2nd or 3rd in their age group and gender. In the senior age groups (9/10, 11, 12/13) up to 10 runners from each classification can qualify for the District event, however, students will need to demonstrate that they can run the course in a competitive time to qualify. The District event will be held in Yackandandah on Friday, May 12.
We do require several parents or carers to assist with supervision of the track on the day. This involves taking a position on the track to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all participants. If you are able to help with this, please complete the form at this link: https://forms.gle/mn65A7s4bSBUAb9J7
If you haven’t returned the permission form you have received a new one tonight. Please return them tomorrow.

A big congratulations to 5/6B and 4-6L for their wonderful efforts performing their drumming item at the end of the opening parade of the folk festival on Friday night. Aside from all your efforts during the performance, I really appreciate how well you all assisted with setting up and packing up, especially at such a busy time! Well done!!
As the term draws to a close, the senior choir are finalising preparations for our Anzac Day performances at the beginning of next term. They will present a practice performance at assembly this Friday, so please feel free to attend particularly if your children are involved.
It was wonderful to see so many of our students and families out and about enjoying the music at the various festival venues over the weekend. If you missed out on tickets this year, I strongly encourage you to get in early next year!
A number of our students were busking in the streets over the weekend also. This is such a wonderful way to develop performance experience and earn some money in a fun, friendly and festive atmosphere! Well done!
