Congratulations to our students, new and ongoing, for a wonderful first term of learning. I am most proud of the positive work habits that we can see our students developing. Learning is a verb – a doing word. It is great to see children engage in the ‘doing’. There will only be limited progress if learning is seen as something that is up to the parents and teachers to do for the children.
It is not only individual attitudes that are important. Community attitudes matter too. I am proud also of how our school community sees the importance of learning. This is evident in several ways. These include: the genuine pleasure children have when others succeed; the recognition of learning as a journey and not a race or arbitrary score; the involvement of parents in their children’s learning; the genuine joy teachers express when children make breakthroughs with their learning at any level.
Tomorrow Junior School Council is holding a ‘Crazy Hair Day.’ Children are invited to come with their crazy hair and optional casual clothes. If participating, please have children bring a gold coin donation.
School finishes this Thursday at 2:30pm. Remember that school returns after the school holidays on Monday 24th April. Tuesday 25th April is Anzac Day and we invite all students and families to join us for the mid-morning service held in the Memorial Park, where our School Captains will lay a wreath on behalf of the school community.
Enjoy your Easter Holidays!

Growth Mindset
Last week in SEL, the school explored the concept of mindset. We learned that our mindset is our attitude towards learning. When faced with a challenge or problem, where is your mindset at? Sometimes, we can have a fixed mindset, where we feel stuck in a rut and thoughts like these creep into our minds: I am never going to be able to do this, I am so dumb at this, I give up, It’s not perfect so why bother.
We spoke about how these thoughts are normal, we all think them sometimes, but, if we can retrain our brains to a growth mindset, we can begin to build our brain muscles and grow as a learner. Some examples given by the students were: Challenges help me grow, Even though I failed this time, I’ll try again, I can’t do this YET, I am going to ask for help so I can be successful.
Nothing is impossible. The word itself says, I’m Possible.

Congratulations to our little singing star, Freya, who sang with much gusto in the Yack Community Choir at the Folk Festival! She was a shingling star in the group!
Tomato Sauce Fundraiser - Limited Product Run - Be Quick
The school had a quantity of tomatoes left over from the Folk Festival dinner. These tomatoes were fantastic table quality, and to avoid wastage have been turned into a limited production of gourmet tomato sauce. The school is selling large bottles for $20, and small bottles for $12. This sauce is the perfect accompaniment for local pies, and other savoury goodies. Be quick, Limit of one bottle per household.A big thank you to Paul & Trish Anderson for making the sauce.
Anzac Day badges are for sale from the school office;
Prices are $1, $2 and $5.
On Friday 12th May all students in Years F/1/2 will be travelling to the Cube in Wodonga to see the performance of ‘Are we there yet?’ We will be leaving school at 10am and returning at 12.45pm. Students will not be able to order hot lunch on this day. Cost is $10 per student. Permission forms have been sent home tonight and need to be returned by Thursday. Payment is required before the excursion.
