Congratulations to the Yr. 5/6 students on a wonderful Canberra Camp last week. As usual, the conduct of the students was exemplary. Thanks also to Lauren for her organisation, Caz and Brendan for being the responsible staff and to Cameron Blair, Donna Jones and Matt Dickeson for giving their time to help as well.
I would like to encourage children to wear their school uniform jumpers to school rather than casual clothing. We have new uniforms for sale at the office – and often have second hand uniforms available at no cost.

The Hot Lunch Coordinator position is up for grabs! This is a 5 hours per week paid position, with all the necessary systems in place to make the transition simple and smooth.
If this is something you would like more info on, then please feel free to chat to me (Jane) or Michael.
Only three weeks left of term, with 150 orders for sausage rolls coming up this Friday! Big shout out to all the hot lunch helpers, it really does make for a lovely morning, seeing smiling faces and connecting with our school community members.

Winter Sports Carnival
The Winter Sports Carnival is taking place on Friday, July 14 (the first week of Term 3). This event is for students in Years 3-6. This year, Yackandandah will have teams in netball, football, soccer, t-ball, and volleyball. To help prepare for the carnival, we will be having sports practice on the next three Fridays until the end of term. Football and netball will train at school, while soccer, t-ball, and volleyball players will walk down to the sports park. Because this is a local excursion, students do not need a permission form, but will be down at the sports park from 12.45pm-1.45pm. Students are encouraged to wear appropriate footwear for training.
Permission forms and more information in regards to the Carnival will be sent home next week.
Brendan
Upper Hume Division Cross Country
On Friday the 2nd of June, 22 of our students represented Yackandandah Primary School at the Upper Hume Division Cross Country at Willow Park in Wodonga. It was a beautiful day with the sun streaming down as the runners whizzed around the 2km and 3km courses. Each race had a minimum of 100 runners in it! The track was hilly and the competition tough. There were some incredible sprint finishes and every student from YPS did us proud. It was wonderful to watch them cheer each other on and show such great sportsmanship to their competitors. Lots of families came to cheer the kids on and were a great support. Congratulations to all students, in particular those that have qualified for the Regional Cross Country! Below are the results from Friday’s amazing races, students who placed 1st – 12th are off to the Regional Cross Country in Benalla on Friday 16th June (more details to follow).
Planning is underway for the Year 5/6 Skiing program for this year. The skiing dates are:
Friday 28th July - Cross Country skiing
Friday 4th August - Downhill skiing
Friday 11th August - Downhill skiing
Friday 18th August - Backup day
Friday 1st September - Backup day
To finalise the costing we need to know if your child will be skiing and on what days. The cost should be approximately $66 for Cross Country and $120 per day for Downhill. We will also be needing parent helpers each day (there is no cost for the parents).
Please click on the link below to complete the Expression of Interest form and also indicate if you are able to assist on any day. This form needs to be completed by this Friday.

On Monday, June 29th, bright and early, the Year 5/6’s jumped on the bus bound for Canberra! This year’s camp was a non-stop, jam-packed adventure with a wonderful mix of educational and fun experiences! The places visited were: The National Botanical Gardens, National Capital Authority, Australian Institute of Sport, Parliament House, Old Parliament House, Government House, The Royal Australian Mint, War Memorial, Indoor Rock Climbing, Greenhills Centre Vertical Challenge, Greenhills Centre Orienteering and Questacon! On the last night, students enjoyed creating a DIY campfire complete with marshmallows and plenty of laughs. Our students were an absolute delight on the camp and represented our school beautifully. Some highlights were meeting the Governor General and his wife, who both spoke to our group and having a wonderful chat with MP Helen Haines! The students were also lucky enough to observe the referendum on the Indigenous Voice in Parliament being debated in the House of Representatives! I would like to personally thank Caz for stepping in for me at the last minute due to illness and to Brendan for taking the lead and ensuring the camp ran smoothly and everyone had a great time! I would also like to say a huge thank you to our wonderful parent helpers who went on this camp – it is a huge time commitment, and we are very grateful for your help as we can’t make camps happen without your support! Three cheers for Donna Jones, Matt Dickeson and Cameron Blair! Finally, we cannot forget our awesome bus driver for getting us everywhere safely and on time – you rock Josh Bartel!
