From the Principal

Welcome back to school for Term Three. It was a soggy term break, but despite the weather I hope families found some quality time together.

On Thursday this week we have five students representing the school at the State Cross Country event in Melbourne. Making it to this stage is an amazing effort, and a chance to compete at the very top level. Good luck to Gabrielle, Tarn, Oscar, Spencer and Zac.

Also this Thursday students will enjoy a concert at Yackandandah Town Hall by the De La Salle College Orchestra. This is a great opportunity to enjoy and learn about orchestral music.

This Friday is the Winter Sports Carnival where students from Yrs. 3-6 will participate in a variety of sports and play against other schools. The aim of the day is to experience team sports in a competitive, but inclusive and fun environment.

We are looking forward to a productive term of learning!

Michael Edwards
Principal

From the Office

Winter Sports Carnival & Choir Eisteddfod Permission forms
Students who have not yet returned their permission form have been given another today.  Please return the form to school tomorrow.

Family Statements
Statements will be emailed out this week to families who have outstanding excursion and camp costs.  Please pay any outstanding charges by the end of this week.

The statements will also include the skiing costs for families in Years 5 & 6. As this is an optional activity payment is required before each skiing day.

Family Payments
Thank you to all the families who have paid the 2023 Voluntary Contributions. Yackandandah Primary School rely on these financial contributions to assist us with the purchasing of art, music and physical education equipment and resources, which in turn, supports us in offering specialist French, Music and Art classes.  These contributions also enable us to enrich learning as well as provide camps and excursions for students.

Due to Department guidelines, we are unable to show the Curriculum contributions on the family statements until after they are paid.

A summary of the suggested voluntary fiinancial contributions is below.  When paying please ensure you put your name and 2023 contributions in the reference.

Enjoy your week

Hot Lunch News

Welcome to the Term 3 Hot Lunch Menu!
A 'Hot Lunch' option is offered to students on Fridays from week 2 onwards during the school term.

The lunch is served at 11 am and includes an individually served hot meal and fruit platter to share.

Each Hot Lunch meal costs $5.

Parents, carers and senior students volunteer their time (Friday's 9am-11:30am) to collect ingredients, prepare, cook and serve the hot meal. The meals are delivered to the classroom, where the class teacher will hand them out to the students that have ordered them.

Here is the Hot Lunch menu for Term 3, 2023.

If you would like to make an order, please use the link below to complete a separate Google form for each student by 6pm MON 17th July 2023.

If you are in Year 5/6 and participating in the skiing program, please do not order for those days.

**We do our best to cater for students with special dietary needs. Please indicate these on the order form**

We also need and welcome kitchen helpers, so please indicate on the form if you are able to assist. No experience needed, we love to have new faces in the kitchen!

She has done a stellar job of preparing and serving countless healthy and delicious meals while taking great care of the kitchen volunteers. Happy kids, happy parents - thanks Jane!

Looking forward to lots of smiling faces on Fridays :)

Sports News

Winter Sports Carnival
The Winter Sports Carnival is taking place for students in Years 3-6 this Friday in various venues in Wodonga:

  • AFL: Wodonga Racecourse
  • Netball: Kelly Park
  • Soccer: Kelly Park
  • Volleyball: Wodonga Tennis Centre (next to Kelly Park)
  • Teeball (Willow Park)

Students need to dress appropriately for the weather and for their sport. This might include a change of clothes and footwear.

  • AFL: students wear their YFNC gear
  • Netball: dresses/singlets are provided. Students get changed at school.
  • Soccer: school uniform and boots/runners. The school does have some shin pads but students can wear their own.
  • Volleyball: school uniform
  • Teeball: school uniform

Most games start at 10am, so students need to be at school by 9am. As a general rule, most venues do not have a canteen, so students need to pack enough food and water to last the day. Teams should return to school by 3pm.

An ensemble from De La Salle College in Melbourne will perform for our students in the public hall on Thursday afternoon at 2:10. We are very fortunate to have these students visit the region. This should be very inspiring and entertaining for our students.
