We have a larger than usual number of absences due to illness at the moment, both in staff and students. I would like to thank everyone for their patience as we work to keep the school operating as normal as possible. It is important that we all give ourselves enough time to recover from illnesses and injury. Thanks, families, for keeping us informed via compass, email or word of mouth of any student absences.
Congratulations to the students who competed at the Division Cross Country event last week. Once again students from Yackandandah Primary School performed well and in great spirit. The Regional Cross Country is the next stage with five students from our school competing.

Sessions are 11th-12th, 17-19th and 24th of June.

Elena Dean (5/6E)
Lily Schultz (5/6L)
Dane Holden (5/6B)
A reminder to all Grades 3-6 students and parents at home, it’s recommended a “little and often” approach is adopted; 3 minutes practice a day, 4 or 5 times a week is a good target.
Contact your child’s teacher if you require more information on how you can support your child to turn their heat map green.
Social and Emotional Learning
In SEL, students have been learning about all the different emotions that humans can experience. A program that can help students learn about their emotions, assist with labelling emotion and regulating emotions when required, is The Zones of Regulation (ZoR).
Each class has been learning about the 4 coloured zones- Blue, Yellow, Red and Green. In the image below you will see the different emotions within each coloured zone.
It is ever so important that when we use this program with children, we emphasise that all humans experience emotions, and that being in a particular zone for a short period is ok. However, if a particular emotion or zone is making us feel uncomfortable or is affecting our relationships, this program can highlight some tools we can use to ease our feelings of discomfort. Over the last few weeks, classes have been developing Zone Toolboxes full of strategies that students may find helpful. Some examples are, Take 5 Breath, exercise/heavy work activities, mindfulness activities, laughing, sensory fidgets, and happy baby pose.
Families may find it useful to use this ZoR language at home, or you might ask your child/children about it and get them to teach you.
