From the Principal

This week contractors have begun some repair works to the roof on our main school building. The purpose of the works is to fix some persistent leaks. The workers will be around for a few weeks. There may be some barrier fencing at different parts of the school. Apologies for any inconvenience – please find alternate entrances if your usual route is blocked temporarily.

The Smile Squad dental crew have completed consultations with children who have returned a consent form. A specialised truck will now be used to complete any follow up dental work that is required. The truck will be parked near the sandpit in our school grounds.

Our office manager Sandra is going on some well-deserved long service leave beginning tomorrow. Alyce Pritchard will be helping in the office for a couple of days each week until Sandra’s return at the end of the month. Please be patient with us as we do our best to keep the office ticking over in the meantime.

NAPLAN begins this week. The actual testing days are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. We aim to make the tests as stress free as possible for the children. It is, after all, the everyday learning that really matters.

There has been an increase in covid positive reports in school over the last week. Nothing extreme, but noticeable. Please remember that if your child has any symptoms keep them at home. Rapid antigen tests are still recommended. We currently have an ample supply of RATS so please do not hesitate to collect some if you need them.

Yackandandah Primary School has several positions available.  Please me if you are interested in any of them.

  1. Integration Aide – This is an ongoing position working with a specific child in the classroom.
  2. OSHC Co-ordinator - Manage our OSHC program.  Applications must have completed or be completing a Diploma in Child Services or Bachelor of Education or equivalent.
  3. OSHC Casual staff – Applicants require or need to be completing a Diploma in Child Services or Cert 3 in Child Services or equivalent.

All positions require a current Working With Children check and for applicants to be fully vaccinated.

Principal

Art News

We are very excited to be taking Years 3/4/5/6 to Shepparton on an Art Excursion to visit the new Shepparton Art Museum (SAM) on Monday 23rd May. SAM is an incredible $50 million public building, that spans 5 levels with multiple exhibition spaces, public art and installations, café, shop, outdoor amphitheatre and terrace, visitors centre and Indigenous Art Gallery/Shop.

https://sheppartonartmuseum.com.au/

https://greatershepparton.com.au/community/arts/sam

It is an exciting opportunity for our students to undertake an art excursion of this scale, as we haven’t had one in two years! The visit to SAM and workshops is free, so the cost is only for the bus trip, which is quite high. I’m very thankful to the school for subsiding the cost of the bus to bring the cost down to $20 per child.

Students are to be at school at 7.45am for an 8.00am departure.

Three buses will travel to Shepparton, departing YPS at 8am sharp and arriving back in Yackandandah at approximately 4.30pm.

Buses will drop YPS staff and students at Victoria Park Lake Playground upon arrival in Shepparton for morning recess, before walking approx. 500m to SAM nearby.

YPS students and staff will spend 3 hours at SAM undertaking tours of multiple exhibitions, the building, art workshops and activities. Students will be split into 3 groups for the visit to SAM, and rotate through the exhibitions and workshops/activities, and lunch break.

At the conclusion of the Museum visit, students will have an opportunity for a short break and a final snack on the outdoor terrace and amphitheatre, before boarding buses for the return trip to Yackandandah.

Parent helpers are always welcome on excursions, and we have spaces for three parents to join us. Please contact me to secure your seat! It will be a great day! sarah.mcalister@education.vic.gov.au

Parent helpers must hold a current WWCC and be fully vaccinated.

Permission forms were sent home last week and need to be returned by Monday 16th May. Please indicate on the form if you would like to use CSEF money (if you are eligible) or credit from your family account.

More details to follow in the coming weeks.

OSHC News

This week in OSHC!
This week in OSHC, the educators had a theme to focus on for the children. The theme was Sportsmenship and team building. This allowed us to see how the children work together within a team environment. This was done by playing different group games each day. As the days went on the educators were able to see the children grow and expand within their teams. They learnt what it meant to be in a team and how to be a good team player. We hope to see these skills grow and improve as the year goes on. We also hope to see the children use these skills within the classroom and out on the playground during break time.

During our morning sessions, educators have seen the children super engaged in imaginative play! This has been great to see children of all ages playing together to create their own worlds to play in. The children have been able to make use of our kitchen play resources.

Thanks, OSHC Team

Paver Fundraiser

ORDERS CLOSING FRIDAY 27TH MAY

School Council are running a new fundraiser!

Money raised will support staff in implementing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) programs, including the purchasing of associated resources.

In exchange for a generous contribution of $50 to the new STEM Fund, a personalised engraved paver will be placed in the new Dry Creek Bed Play Space between the timber bridge and the pedestrian access gate onto High Street (photo below).  This area was meant to be paved in the original design, however we ran out of time last year!

Each paver can be personalised with up to three lines of text (maximum of 17 characters per line including spaces, all caps lock and centred on the paver).  Buy one for the whole family or one each!

But you’ll have to be quick – with a limited number of pavers available, we will sell out!  Don’t miss this opportunity to leave a long-lasting momento at Yack Primary!

 How to order:

  1. Complete the google form (one per paver) found here https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSc7D86Iur1PEgOP2gZeuLzbvJ5vrUxeJDM0KCcvZ-AYrqfDsQ/viewform
  2. Transfer payment ($50 per paver) to the school bank account (Westpac) including "PAVER: SURNAME" as the reference.

(The *NEW* Westpac bank account details are listed at the bottom of the google form)
