From the Principal

Welcome back to school for Term Three. There is plenty happening this term, in addition to the regular classroom learning routine. This includes Yr. 3/4 camp to Melbourne, Yr. 5/6 camp to Sovereign Hill, swimming program, whole school athletics day, book week (including dress up day) just to name a few of the extra-curricular events taking place.

During the holidays works on the undercover area near Hammond St were completed. Edging and artificial turf was installed along with some planting. Big thanks to school council who organised the works. This area will be useful for students and classes – and we are also hoping parents will feel welcome to use the space when waiting to pick up children at the end of the day, hopefully easing some congestion at the busy corner.

Miss Prlic (Judy) is on long service leave this term. Her two days in 3/4 SP will be covered by Julian (Jules) Millward. Jules is an experienced teacher who is familiar with our school and the class. Welcome aboard Jules.

COVID still continues to circulate. I know we are all thoroughly tired of hearing about and dealing with COVID, but it still continues to impact schools and other workplaces. The procedures are still the same for positive covid cases – 7 days isolation. Children can still come to school if a family member is positive, provided they test negative and have no symptoms. We have enough RATs for everyone to take as many as they need, just pop into the office and pick them up when you need more.

Just a final reminder that the school’s WAW bank account is now closed. The school now banks with WESTPAC, details below:

Sports News

State Cross-Country Championships
You may have seen our squad of runners featured in the Border-Mail a couple of weeks ago, or perhaps have seen them training hard around town. This Thursday is the big day when 8 students will represent the school in State Championships. Best of luck to Spencer Dowsley, Jim Kelley, Oscar Dickeson, Tarn Charles-Jones, Lucy Matheson Jones, Aidan Dent, James Thornton, and Lola Mahoney. Just making it this far is an incredible achievement.

Winter Sports Carnival
The Winter Sports Carnival is taking place this Friday in Wodonga. Thanks to those families who have already returned their permission forms. We will have one final training session this Thursday after recess, with those students playing tee-ball, soccer, and rugby tag, heading down to the sports park. Teachers in charge will communicate with students regarding appropriate footwear and gear, but as a general rule, soccer, tee-ball, netball and rugby tag just wear school uniform and suitable footwear. At the time of printing, we have not received the final information from the organisers about which venues (if any) will have a canteen. Students should pack enough food and water for the day and not assume that a canteen will be available. Parents and carers are welcome to come along and watch, with the sports being held at the following venues:

Netball & Soccer: Kelly Park
Football: Wodonga Racecourse
Tee-ball & Rugby Tag: Willow Park

As a general rule, most sports begin by 10.30 and are wrapping up by 2pm.

Year F/1 News

This  Thursday the students from F/1C and F/1R will be travelling to Osbornes Flat to participate  in a Melbourne Museum Dinosaur incursion at the Osbornes Flat Primary School.  We will be leaving school at 9.15am and returning at 11am.  Permission forms were sent home last Term.  If you haven’t returned your form please do so tomorrow.  There is no cost for this excursion.

Year 3/4 News

Good news for the Year 3/4 camp.  We are able to fit on one bus so the cost has been reduced to $250 per student. The cost has also been subsidised by the school.   Payment is required before the camp or may be paid in instalments if you wish.  Credit in your family account and CSEF money may be used for the camp.  If you have already paid for the camp in full a credit of $40 will be applied to your account.

If your child won’t be attending the camp please let your teacher and Sandra know.

Permission forms were sent home during the last week of Term Two and need to be returned to school by Friday.

Year 5/6 Skiing Program

Our skiing days and cost are as follows:

Friday 29th July – Cross Country Skiing – Cost $66
Friday 19th August – Down Hill Skiing – Cost $120
Friday 26th August – Down Hill Skiing – Cost $120

Friday 2nd September is the backup day.  We are only taking one bus each day, if students wish to attend an extra day it will depend on whether there is room on the bus.

Permission forms have been sent home tonight and need to be returned by Wednesday 29th July.  Payment is required before each skiing day or may be paid in instalments. Credit in your family account and CSEF money may also be used.

Choir News

As the Christmas in July performance on Sunday, 31st July draws near, numbers of those who are able to participate in Junior and Senior Choir are needed by the organisers. Today, a note has been given to Choir children to take home to parents to be returned to school by this Friday, 15th July. It would be great to see as many there as possible but know that a weekend time is always a juggle!
