On Saturday we celebrated 150 years of public education at Yackandandah Primary School. A number of people came to view old photographs, reconnect with their old school and see what the school looks like today. Senior students had plenty of business for their $20 Boss enterprises. I particularly enjoyed talking to people who were students and teachers in the past and hearing their stories. Big thanks to Paul & Trish Anderson and all the volunteers supporting the burger making. Thanks also to Jack Gregory for performing his music and entertaining the crowd. The video produced by Brendan Hogan and students that brought to life stories from the school’s earlier days was also a hit.
This Friday staff and students will attend the Remembrance Day ceremony in the Memorial Gardens. We will head over the Gardens at about 10:45.

State Representatives
Despite the disappointment of the Regional Athletics being cancelled recently, 2 of our students were invited to take part in the State Athletics Championships in Melbourne last week. Spencer Dowsley competed in the 9/10 Boys 1500m and Archie Korn competed in the 9/10 Boys Discus. This is a massive achievement and a wonderful experience to be a part of. We are very proud of what these students have achieved, but more importantly, they should be very proud of themselves.
JSC DISCO & Pizza Night!!! HELP needed! :)
On Thursday, December 1st, the JSC will be hosting a disco! The disco will be held in the 56L classroom.
The junior disco (years F-2) will be from 6pm - 7pm and the senior disco (years 3-6) will be from 715pm to 815pm.
More details to come! For now we would love to know who is able to help out! We will need people to help make and cook pizzas. We will also need help moving furniture in order to set up and pack up the 56L classroom. The JSC have chosen 80’s as the theme! If you are able to help in any way, please email Lauren with what you are able to assist with. We look forward to a FANTASTIC community event!
$20 Boss - Open for Business!
As part of our economics unit, students in 5/6 have each been given $20 and tasked with turning this loan into a small business that will operate for all of November. Each business is required to be a social enterprise with at least 50% (sometimes up to 100%) of profits going to a local community group or charity. Below you can see some advertisements for some of the businesses and the products or services they are offering. Every Wednesday in November, some businesses will also be selling their products (including food) at school during break time. Most items range between $1-$4 and include homemade drinks, ice-creams and baked goods. The first Wednesday ‘Market Day’ will be this Wednesday.
Congratulations to Ella Joy. Ella was in the BST State Finals and was chosen as the 1st place Miss model of 2022! Ella is also in the Kidz Fashion Week in Melbourne later this month as well as appearing on a couple of TV Commericals.

OSHC Weekly Round Up!
Off and racing again for another exciting week in OSHC. We celebrated Halloween in style with different activities and games. Our space was transformed into a spider infested area with lots of super-duper spookiness! Especially the clown skeleton who stole all the scissors!
We celebrated Diwali- The festival of lights, the children were eager to create their own paper lanterns and to decorate mandalas with coloured sands. Diwali is a celebration that lasts 5 days and includes good food, fireworks, coloured sand, and special candles and lamps/lanterns.
Master Chef Cooking sessions this Wednesday will be ANZAC biscuits for Remembrance Day on Friday.
We have been enjoying an array of new activities in OSHC, the children loved learning to play Finska, they helped each other keep tally of their scores and helped their peers with the addition sums. Such a great game! LIMBO is also getting a good work out this week, the children have loved jamming away to their favourite songs whilst completing the hard task of getting under the limbo stick. Bubbles are always a favourite, Yackandandah would have had so many bubbles floating around on Friday afternoon, as the children blew, waved, raced, twirled, jumped, leaped, and experimented on how to get as many bubbles out as fast as they could. (And who could make the BIGGEST bubble).
In OSHC we have been touching base to include more first Nation’s culture in the program, we started with some dot painting and discussions on the history, and how our First Nations People created their paintings so long ago and still today. The children found this fascinating, they really enjoyed painting without a paintbrush. To extend on this we will be exploring painting rocks (stones) this week.
Here’s to another fun filled week in OSHC,
Kerryn.
8th November – Lucas Stagg
9th November – Max Boschetti
