NAPLAN testing for Years 3&5 takes place this week. The tests will be conducted on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. We use NAPLAN testing as one point of data among many, the State Government use it as one of the major indicators of student achievement.
Thank you to those who volunteered to coordinate our food service on the Saturday night of the Folk Festival. Please consider volunteering an hour or two of your time over the weekend to support them and to assist on the morning of the Sunday Market Day. You will find volunteer information in a separate section of the newsletter.
Congratulations again to the Mountain Biking Team with their amazing performance at the National Interschools. You can check out more details elsewhere in the newsletter. Thanks again to the families who organised and transported the students who took part.

This week's Hot Lunch is Cheesy Quesadillas - a delicious end to a short week!
We had a very busy morning last week preparing A LOT of Baked Potatoes. Our two senior student helpers Lenny J and Oscar D did a fabulous job preparing fruit, assembling meals and taking everything out to the classrooms. If your senior (year 5/6) student is keen to help out in the kitchen they can speak to their teacher to be placed on to next term's roster. It's a fun morning and a great way to learn some practical skills... as well as an icy pole reward for their efforts :)

Thank you to Jane Murphy, Shireen Porteous and Ruth Raymond who have offered to coordinate the Folk Festival dinner on Saturday 23rd March.
This year we are keeping it simple and having a BBQ selling Yack Burgers in front of the Memorial Gardens. We are seeking volunteers to assist with food preparation from 1pm on Saturday as well as cooking and serving food Saturday evening. The link to the help sheet is below. We also would like to borrow a few large eskies for the evening – please indicate on the help sheet if you can provide one.
As well as assistance with the BBQ we also need someone to assist Michael in marking out the market sites on Saturday, putting signs on cars re parking and assistance with the market at 6am Sunday morning and 4pm Sunday afternoon.

The Australian Mountain Bike (MTB) Inter Schools Championships were held in Thredbo last week. It is a big commitment with four different disciplines contested over three days; and almost two thousand competitors registered in all divisions.
Yackandandah Primary was represented by Hugo and Zack Dickeson in Division 5 (Yrs. 3/4) and Sebastian Davison, Oscar Dickeson, Spencer Dowsley, Jim Kelley and Miles Thornton in Division 4 (Yrs. 5/6).
The riders (and supporting families) were very grateful for the sunny weather this year! The boys put in a huge day riding for hours on Sunday during official practice, trying to familiarise themselves with the courses to be raced.
The boys all showed increased confidence, skills, and courage navigating the challenging trails of Thredbo. It’s wonderful to see the team spirit and consideration amongst this group - helping with mechanical issues, sharing bikes, not riding alone - and most boys also had to overcome a crash or two.
Following on from the recent Victorian competition, the students looked fantastic in their new Yack Primary team shirts. Another big thank you to School Council for funding these.
The older boys were also eligible for team results, as this required a minimum of three students in the same Division.
Division 4 had approximately 120 students competing and approximately 60 in the younger Division 5.
It is difficult to put the results of our seven students into perspective but the Champion School Results shows Yackandandah Primary School finished 40th from 285 competing schools!
Congratulations to all of the boys for representing YPS so well and achieving the following individual and team results at Nationals.

We would love to see some girls get more involved with mountain bike riding. You don’t need to race downhill courses, there are some of the best cross country trails right here in our region waiting to be explored! Bike riding is a fun social activity that has great health & fitness benefits and gets you outdoors.
Please talk to any of the families involved if you would like to know more. KOBBOS is Yackandandah’s junior MTB group. It provides friendly and supportive sessions for beginners, and a chance for more experienced kids to develop their skills.
Beechworth Chain Gang offer weekly sessions for juniors, from beginners through to experienced riders. BCG is also coordinating MTB activities to cater for females.
MTB instruction is provided by The Fastline Bikademy in Albury / Wodonga. TFB offer weekly programs during Terms 1 and 4, and a variety of holiday clinics.
The Vacation care program will be operating during the April school holidays from Tuesday 2nd April to Friday 12th April. Unfortunatley due to staff shortages we will not be operating on Wednesday 3rd April. Bookings can be made through the Xplor portal or by emailing yack.ps.oshc@outlook.com
