From the Principal

What a wonderful Athletics day we had last Thursday. It was a beautiful day and students participated with great enthusiasm and spirit. Congratulations to Windham House for winning the day in a very close finish. It’s been over 10 years since the last victory! I would like to thank Robyn for her excellent organisation, ensuring the day ran smoothly. Thanks also to all the people who helped on the day to make it work so well.

Just a reminder to families about school uniform. We encourage all children to wear the school uniform, including jumpers. We have noticed that a growing number of children are coming to school in non-uniform jumpers (including those purchased at external sporting events.) Jumpers are available for purchase at school, though we encourage you to check for any spares before purchasing.

As you are aware, this has been a particularly busy term with regard to excursions. This includes the upcoming swimming, 3/4 and 5/6 camps, District Athletics and Bonegilla 5/6 excursion. I realise that this means more form processing than normal and we appreciate your doing this on time as it saves us a mad scramble just before leaving for excursions.

Don’t forget the Book Character Dress up day this Wednesday. We encourage your child to dress up as a favourite book character. We are not expecting you to purchase expensive costumes and appreciate a little creativity with what you have on hand. Weather permitting we will assemble in the courtyard soon after 9am to share view costumes and hear what character and book they are from.

Post House Athletics & District Athletics Information

Last Friday, we had our House Athletics at the Albury, Les O’Brien Athletics Precinct.

Thank you again to the parents, BSC students and staff who assisted with the set-up, running of events and packing away of equipment at the end of the day.

The House results were as follows:

1st place Windham, 524 points

2nd Kars, 518 points

3rd Wellsford, 491 points

4th Hammond, 489 points

Congratulations to all competitors from Windham (yellow) House. After a 10+ year long drought, you’ll now be added to the school House Athletics trophy!

Also, well done to everyone who participated on the day and to those who had a go at all events, even though some were really challenging.

Our District event is in 10 days, on Thursday 29th August at the Albury, Les O’Brien Athletics Precinct. Students who have qualified can participate in 5 events, plus the relay. I’ll have a meeting with all students tomorrow to confirm events discuss details regarding the event.

The permission forms will be going home today or tomorrow. Students will be travelling by bus and their will be a cost of $10 to cover bus expenses. Their will be no canteen on the day, so like House Athletics, students are to take a packed lunch, snacks, a hat and water bottles.

Art Room News

We have been exploring optical illusions in 5/6B over the past few weeks!!

Times Table Rockstar

Congratulations to Hunter Wall (5/6L) who has turned his heat maps green on timetables rockstars this week. This means he consistently answering the 12x tables questions in 4 seconds or less.

A reminder to all Grades 3-6 students and parents at home, it’s recommended a “little and often” approach is adopted; 3 minutes practice a day, 4 or 5 times a week is a good target.

Contact your child’s teacher if you require more information on how you can support your child to turn their heat map green.
