From the Principal

Year 3/4 students, staff and a couple of parent volunteers travel to Melbourne this week for the Urban Camp. The Urban Camp provides students with the opportunity to engage with a number of exciting, city-based activities. They will return to school Friday evening.

I have direct emailed all families with information about the School Savings Bonus – a one off, $400.00 grant for each student enrolled in a Government School next year. Please check your email to read about how it works. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

Congratulations to all students who participated in the District Athletics last week. As always, Yackandandah Primary School students participated in great spirit and seized the chance to push themselves to do their best. A large number of students have qualified for the Division Athletics early next term. We will run a bus to the Division Athletics and those who have qualified will be accompanied by Robyn and Lauren. Robyn will share more details with students who have qualified.

Now that Spring is with us the UV ratings are climbing. Next week we will be reminding students to wear their hats when outside at school. There will be a little leeway next week, but following that, if students do not have their hat they will be restricted to covered areas during break time. New hats are available for purchase at school.

YACKANDANDAH TENNIS CLUB – JUNIOR TENNIS

Spring isn’t far away so it’s time to pull out your tennis racquet and get hitting! The Kiewa and Talgarno District Tennis Association competition will be starting in early October and Yack Tennis Club are looking for previous and new players to represent them. Our teams need to be sorted by 9/9.

Saturday morning competition tennis is designed for children who have had some coaching or experience of the game and are ready to begin match play. Section 4 involves doubles matches and players should be able to hold a rally. Parents will be asked to assist with the scoring of matches. Section 3 is for more experienced players and involves both singles and doubles.

For the adults, we have Saturday afternoon competition tennis (played here in Yack and around the district) or local social tennis on Tuesday or Thursday nights.

Tennis coaching is on Wednesday afternoons and will begin on Wednesday 28/8. If you would like professional lessons, contact Paul Sykes on 0447359023. For younger members or those completely new to tennis, more information about Hot Shots community play will be provided when dates are finalised.

If you would like to play Saturday competition tennis (junior morning or senior afternoon), please contact Matt or Bec by SUNDAY 1st OF SEPTEMBER. We plan to have a hit early September to allocate players to teams.

For any further information, please contact:

Bec Stamp on 0437253334 or

Matt Bayne on 0447727002.

Featuring Stefan Cassomenos and Sophie Rowell, Emma Sullivan, Merrewyn Bramble and Blair Harris, Members of Melbourne Chamber Orchestra.
Written when the composer was just 22, Schubert’s Trout quintet remains one of the most joyous, life-affirming works in the chamber music repertoire. Featuring the unusual combination of piano, violin, viola, cello and double bass, Schubert’s music invites us to enjoy endless harmonic and melodic inventiveness.

Pianist and composer Stefan Cassomenos will present a short pre-concert talk commencing 30mins prior to the start of the performance. This talk is included in the price of admission, and – aside from purchasing a ticket – no registration is necessary.

This project is supported by the Victorian Government through Creative Victoria
