From the Principal

A Little Taste of Yack
The YPS School Council Cookbook ‘A Little Taste of Yack’ team has created the book as a fundraiser, and we really appreciate your support. It’ll make a perfect gift for extended family for Christmas – not only for its great recipes, but as a wonderful memento of your time at Yackandandah Primary School. Please click on the link to place your order (and order lots!). Thank you!

More details in the cookbook section of this newsletter, or go straight to the ordering here:

School Starting Time
There have been a number of children arriving at school quite early. I would like to remind you that the school grounds are not supervised before 8:40 and any children are under their parent’s duty of care until that time. Before School Care is available if families require the service.

School Concert
Our annual School Concert will be on Thursday 7th November at the Yackandandah Town Hall. There will be a matinee dress rehearsal at 12 noon (families are welcome to attend the dress rehearsal if unable to attend the evening performance) and an evening performance at 6:00pm. There is no ticketing – all are welcome. It will be first in best dressed for seating and if seating is all taken, standing room at the back and sides of the auditorium.

Classes will be performing the same items they performed at the Wodonga and District Schools Arts Festival earlier in the year, along with the choir performing.

The concert should be about an hour – possibly less.

Principal

From the Office

Attendances/Late arrivals/Early Departures
A reminder that attendances are now marked through Compass.  If your child is absent parents enter the absence via the Compass App on your phone.  If you are dropping you child off late or picking up early that is also done through the Compass App but it would also be appreciated if you could call into the office to ensure it has been entered on Compass.  Our attendances need to be accurate, and we also need to know which students are at school in case of an emergency.

Enjoy your week.
Sandra

You will be required to have a Working with Children Check (WWCC), which is free, and takes about 15 minutes to complete online.

Hot Shots Tennis

Regional Hotshots Tennis
Last Thursday 31st October, ten students from Years 5 and 6 represented Yackandandah PS at the Regional Hotshots Tennis Championships at the Wangaratta Hardcourts Tennis Association. The morning began with Jo Marples from Tennis Victoria pulling out the actual player trophies from the Australian Open. There were ooohs and ahhhs as the silver and gold glittered in the sun! Our students were playing for the Regional Pennant flag and the opportunity to travel to Kooyong to compete in the State Championships later in the year.

With high hopes, the players were challenged to quickly adapt to an unfamiliar version of tennis with a small court, red balls, different scoring and a mixture of singles and doubles play. The competition was evenly matched throughout the day and the end result was placing equal third out of six teams. As the supervising teacher, I felt proud of the way our students conducted themselves and demonstrated our school values of Learning, Fairness and Respect.

A big thank you to Bridget who assisted with transporting the players to and from Wangaratta and Robyn for helping to organise our entry of equipment. I’m sure that this is an event that we will be back for next year.

Mountain Bike Interschool Competitions

Yack Primary MTB Team - Expressions of Interest!

As the 2024 school year nears its end, we turn our thoughts towards MTB racing in Term 1 2025!

The Victorian Interschools at Falls Creek are scheduled for Friday 14th February.  This is an XCO style race (mass start) where students complete multiple laps of an undulating course.

The Australian Interschools at Thredbo are scheduled for Monday - Wednesday 3rd - 5th March.  There are four events, Pump, All Mountain, Flow and Downhill.

Both events are for students in Grades 3 - 6.

If your child/ren might be interested in attending either of these events, please let Jane Dowsley know via email jane.dowsley@gmail.com

Although these events will be family-led and organised; we would like to ensure we have enough team shirts available.  We can also link families making accommodation arrangements for Thredbo and notify everyone when registrations open.

A Little Taste of Yack

The team behind 'A Little Taste of Yack' have been busily compiling and editing our fundraising cookbook and we are about to send it to the printers! So now it's time to place your orders. The books will be available around 2 December (Week 9 of term) for pickup from the school office. They will cost $40 each and payment should be made to the office using the usual processes (i.e. making a deposit quoting your name and "cookbook" in the transaction detail). Orders can be placed through the following link or in person to Michael. We are limiting the ordering exclusively to the YPS community so this is your chance to secure your copies of the book. Any extra copies after these orders have been filled will be made available to purchase to the broader community. This will include your ordered copies if you've ordered and haven't paid by 29 November. See the pictures below for a sneak preview.
