‘A Little Taste of Yack’
The Yackandandah Primary School Council has prepared this book as a fundraiser for School Council Initiatives around the school and we would really appreciate your support. Past YPS school council initiatives have included upgrades to our school grounds such as the Dry Creek Bed and the resurfacing of the basketball court. Your support in buying a book allows us to plan for future upgrades to our school grounds to make play spaces even better for children. The book will make a perfect gift for extended family for Christmas – not only for its great recipes, but as a wonderful memento of your time at Yackandandah Primary School. So please click on the link to place your order (and order lots!) Thank you!
More details in the cookbook section of this newsletter, or go straight to the ordering here:

Each book costs $40.00. Remember, when making the transfer to the school account, put your name and ‘cookbook’ in the reference. The school’s account details are:

Remembrance Day
Today students and staff attended the Remembrance Day ceremony in the Memorial Gardens. School Captains laid a wreath and were also responsible for raising the flag after the minute of silence. Congratulations to all students for participating respectfully alongside members of the public.

Chickenpox
We have had a suspected case of Chickenpox reported to the school. Chickenpox is very easy to catch and is infectious for one to two days before the rash starts up and the rash usually starts between 10 to 21 days after the first exposure to chickenpox. If your child does have chicken pox they will need to be kept at home until the last blister has dried. Immunised children who get chickenpox generally have a much milder form of the disease.
End of Year Pool Parties
All classes will be walking to the Yackandandah Pool for their end of year pool parties during the last week of term. Classes will be attending at the following times:
Monday 16th December –3/4 Pool Party 12:00-2:00pm
Wednesday 18th December – F/1/2 Pool Party 12:00 – 2:00pm
Thursday 19th December –5/6 Pool Party 12:00 – 2:00pm
More information and permission forms will be sent home next week.
Enjoy your week.

In Art this term, years F/1/2 are creating abstract sculptures, inspired by French artists Jean Dubuffet and Fernand Leger, and Australian artist Inge King. In Week 4 (and again in Week 6) the students used lots of differently shaped pieces of wood, to construct their sculptures. They did an amazing job, and you can see their creations in the school foyer over the next few weeks, as we start adding sections of colour and line.
A massive thanks to all the incredible parent helpers who gave their time to help with sanding and hot glueing. Emma Furphy, Matt Flower, Catherine Hill, Kate Scoby, Selby Ginn, Stephanie Hogg, Hannah Jones, Lucas Mayhew, Hima Whitley and Tenille McIntosh- I literally would not have been able to do it without you! Thank you so much!

In weeks 7, 8 and 9 I’m planning to have bike maintenance and bike riding sessions for sport during my usual sport timetable for each class.
I have a included a link below to a survey asking if you are interested in helping to run bike maintenance sessions or attend bike riding sessions on specific days and times.
You will be required to have a Working with Children Check (WWCC), which is free, and takes about 15 minutes to complete online.

Here is the link to the survey, which is to be completed by Friday 16th November.

Grade 5 & 6 Entrepreneurs: Get Ready for the $20 Boss Market Stalls!
As part of our exciting $20 Boss unit, the Grade 5 and 6 students have each received a $20 loan to launch their own entrepreneurial ventures! This means senior students had the chance to create and market their very own products or services, and now they’re ready to share them with the school and local community.
Their goal is to repay the loan, donate at least 50% of the profits to a local charity, and hopefully make a little extra cash for themselves along the way! From plants and jelly cups to ice cream sundaes, fudge, drinks, and even lolly skewers – there’s something for everyone! The variety of goods and services will be advertised around the school.
When and Where:
Prices for most items will range from $3 to $4, so make sure your child brings along some change on these days in a named bag or wallet – ready to shop, snack, and support our budding businesses!
This Wednesday 13th November we will be spending the morning at the Yackandandah Sports Park to support our science studies on pollinators and life among the gum trees. The aim of the day is to learn more about the plants and insects (indigenous, native and exotic) that we find in our local environment. This includes what they are called and why they are important in the local habitat. To support this, we are lucky to have a couple of experts in the field run our groups. Karen Retra will be leading groups to learn about insects and the importance of pollinators and Nigel Jones will be introducing us to the native flora species and their special features.
We will spend our time in the vicinity of the sports park and surrounding bush area and will walk down to the park shortly after 9am and return to school by 11am. Staff attending will be Robyn, Angie and Earle.
Students will need to make sure they:
There is no special permission form for this excursion as it falls under our ‘local excursion’ banner. Student medication and school first aid supplies will be available if required.

The team behind 'A Little Taste of Yack' have been busily compiling and editing our fundraising cookbook and we are about to send it to the printers! So now it's time to place your orders. The books will be available around 2 December (Week 9 of term) for pickup from the school office. They will cost $40 each and payment should be made to the office using the usual processes (i.e. making a deposit quoting your name and "cookbook" in the transaction detail). Orders can be placed through the following link or in person to Michael. We are limiting the ordering exclusively to the YPS community so this is your chance to secure your copies of the book. Any extra copies after these orders have been filled will be made available to purchase to the broader community. This will include your ordered copies if you've ordered and haven't paid by 29 November. See the pictures below for a sneak preview.
