There are only four weeks to go this year. On 10th December there will be a whole school transition day where students will spend the day in their 2025 classes, with their 2025 teacher (where possible). We will let the students know which class they will be in early next week. Yr. 6 students will most likely have a transition program with their chosen secondary school at the same time, though each secondary school will provide you with details.
I encourage students, parents and teachers to celebrate the learning that has taken place over the year. It can be difficult to appreciate the learning day to day, but there is so much to appreciate over the year. Well done all!
The Yr. 6 Graduation ceremony will take place at the Yackandandah Public Hall on Wednesday 18th December at 6pm. We look forward to formally farewelling our Yr.6 students after seven years of primary schooling.
A Little Taste of Yack
The school cookbook ‘A Little Taste of Yack’ will go on sale to the public soon. Be sure to secure your copies before they are available to the wider community!

Permission forms were sent home last Monday for the end of year pool parties. Please return permission form and payment by Monday 9th December. Payment is required in cash as we are paying at the gate. Cost is $2.70 per student. Please note that pool membership does not cover the entry cost as the activity is outside normal pool hours.
Enjoy your week.

Week 8’s mental health & wellbeing support tool stems from some professional learning I participated in last week. I listened to a panel of 4 keynote speakers having a discussion around children’s mental health and wellbeing in Australia and the current levels of stress families are under in a post pandemic, increasing cost of living, fast paced screen connected world we live in. The panellists were, Dr Norman Swan (Physician/author), Maggie Dent (parenting educator/author), Professor Frank Oberklaid (research/author) and Adele Barbaro (social media personality).
It was so interesting to listen to these people speak about our current challenges in the space of children’s mental health and wellbeing. They spoke about a few factors they believe which are contributing to an incline in mental health and wellbeing concerns for children in Australia, but one that really stood out to me and made me reflect, was related to ‘time’. Maggie Dent spoke about it quite realistically (as she’s known to do), for her, ‘kids just need time, time to be kids, time for screen free play, time for connection with their caregivers and down time from the fast-paced life.’ This really got me thinking about how humans are programmed for connection, and in order for us to thrive, we, children included, need to be seen, need to be heard, need to be accepted and loved.
So, at the risk of sounding preachy, this week’s support tool isn’t a website, organisation or book- it’s time. Take some time to switch off, connect, do something your family loves whether it be out in nature or as simple as playing Twister or Monopoly in the lounge room after dinner. Take the time!
Enjoy your week.

This week's Hot Lunch is Chicken/Tofu Wraps.
Only 3 more lunches left this term! Thanks to all the parents and students who have given their time to make Hot Lunches happen again this term amongst all the other end of year busy-ness. Your efforts are very much appreciated!

In the art room, in Week 8, the F/1/2's continue painting their abstract sculptures. In Weeks 6 &7 the students built up layers of white undercoat, in readiness for adding colour- which we will start to do this week. The students must choose a warm colour and a cool colour, and decide where that colour will go, which areas will remain white and which areas will be framed by black outline. Lot's of artistic decision making this week!
Tuesday is my last lesson with the students before Mandy returns in Week 9. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with the students, and can't wait to see how their sculptures look upon completion over the last weeks of Term 4.
Welcome back Mandy!

Bonjour, tout le monde!
In French this term we have been exploring French foods, and words for everyday foods in French.
To complete the topic, and for my last sessions with the students before Mandy returns, we have our last fête (the French word for ‘party’), in Weeks 8- with the opportunity for students to taste some French foods they may not have tried before, and to talk about the foods they are eating in French!
I'm also encouraging the students to dress up in French colours or themed clothing on those days. Students can wear their chosen costume/colours to school and remain in them all day.
Week 8
Wednesday 27 Nov: 1/2A
3/4R
F/1C
I have checked with each student about food allergies and intolerances, restrictions and preferences, but if you have any concerns or questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me, (if I haven’t already been in touch) before the day: sarah.mcalister@education.vic.gov.au. I will do my best to cater for everyone’s needs.
Please pack lunch boxes as usual on those days, as they will only be tasting foods, not eating a meal.
Bonne journee!

The team behind 'A Little Taste of Yack' have been busily compiling and editing our fundraising cookbook and we are about to send it to the printers! So now it's time to place your orders. The books will be available around 2 December (Week 9 of term) for pickup from the school office. They will cost $40 each and payment should be made to the office using the usual processes (i.e. making a deposit quoting your name and "cookbook" in the transaction detail). Orders can be placed through the following link or in person to Michael. We are limiting the ordering exclusively to the YPS community so this is your chance to secure your copies of the book. Any extra copies after these orders have been filled will be made available to purchase to the broader community. This will include your ordered copies if you've ordered and haven't paid by 29 November. See the pictures below for a sneak preview.

Australia is a nation of dog lovers, but what happens when doggy bliss turns to chaos?
‘Dogs Behaving (Very) Badly Australia’ is an observational documentary series following the work of expert dog trainer, Graeme Hall, as he travels to Australia from the UK to test out his methods on unsuspecting pups. Graeme will scour our nation of 5 million dogs, to help those with the most strange and unusual behaviours. He’s helped more than 5000 people and their furry companions in the UK so now it’s time to face Australia!
