I would like to congratulate all the students on such a wonderful start to the school year. All the staff are impressed and pleased with the calm and focused attitude students are bringing to the classroom. At our school we emphasise our school values – We are Learners, We are Fair and We show Respect - over creating sets of rules. You can’t make rules for everything, but values can be applied in any situation. I’m grateful that our students are mindful of the values and act accordingly.
There are often several children who arrive at school early. I would like to remind parents and carers that the school grounds are not supervised before 8:40. Parents are responsible for their children’s safety and actions before 8:40. Before School Care is available if needed and can be organised with the OSHC staff.
Nominations for School Council close next Monday (17th Feb). Nomination forms are available at the school office.

Principal

We would like to take a moment to remind you of the importance of monitoring your child’s attendance through Compass. Please keep an eye out for any unexplained absences on your child’s dashboard. You can follow up and communicate to the school office to resolve any discrepancies.
Please reach out if you have any questions or need any help with Compass.
If you don’t have a log in or it isn’t working, please call into the office. It is important that all families have access to Compass.

Sick Bay
Parents will be receiving an email for their children’s first aid/ sick bay visits via Compass. Please note parents will receive a phone call for more serious incidents, as well as an email.
School Saving Bonus
A reminder that parents need to log into the School Savings Bonus portal and allocate the $400 per student. If you allocate it to school activities you can use it for any camps, excursions, school activities and school uniform that the school sells. You can purchase uniform through State Schools Relief – if you wish to do that you will need to allocate it to uniforms. The link below will take you to the parent portal.

Hi Families,
This week, I spoke at all 4 Parent Information Sessions. I shared with families how mental health and wellbeing is supported at Yack PS. We looked at our tiered model of support as well as the referral pathways process for students with mental health and wellbeing concerns.
One thing I did share at each session was The Children’s Wellbeing Continuum (see below). This is a tool we use at school to guide our conversations with students around how they’re tracking. It is important to note that when looking at the continuum, we see ‘Coping’ as a positive place to be. Coping means, I’m good, I get thrown a challenge here and there as all humans do, but I’ve got tools/strategies in my toolkit to cope and people I can go to for help.
I also shared some of Gateway Health’s upcoming parenting courses. If this is something you’re interested in, see the poster below for details and a QR code.
Thanks,
Stacey Hogan

News from the Art Room
The theme for the 2025 Folk Festival Street Parade will be all things BLUE and BLUES MUSIC related, so the Art room is gearing up to become a BLUE clothing Op Shop!!
We will be designing and dreaming up COOL BLUE themed costumes and making BLUES MUSIC related instruments! We would love to achieve a colour coordinated look to the parade this year, by having the colour BLUE as the dominant visual. Of course, blue can be paired up with other colours and patterns too.
We would love families to start collecting blue, blue with colourful patterns and blue denim clothing to donate to the Art room Op Shop. We will be de-constructing and re-combining clothing to make fashionable BLUE wearable artworks. If the garment is for sharing and cutting up, there's no need to name them, however, if your child wants to wear that particular item of clothing in the parade, please clearly label and name it, including your child's class. Here are some wearable artworks that Mandy has been working on over the holidays. Clothing destined for de-construction can be of any size and shape!!
Thank you, from the Op Shop Art team, Caz & Mandy
Welcome to Hot Lunches for 2025!
A 'Hot Lunch' option is offered to students on Fridays during the school term. The lunch is served at 11 am, and includes an individually served hot meal and a fruit platter to share. Each Hot Lunch meal costs $5.
Parents, carers and senior students volunteer their time (Friday's 9am-11:30am) to collect ingredients, prepare, cook and serve the hot meal. The meals are delivered to the classroom, where the class teacher will hand them out to the students that have ordered them.
We have some delicious Hot Lunches on the menu for this term!
Orders are now closed for Term 1
We do our best to cater for students with alternative dietary needs (e.g. allergies/intolerances, vegetarian/vegan, etc.). Please indicate these on the order form
We also need and welcome kitchen helpers, so please indicate on the form if you are able to assist. No experience needed; we love to have new faces in the kitchen!
