From the Principal

Folk Festival

I would like to thank everyone for your support in the lead up to and during the Folk Festival. The event was a great success, due to the preparation and effort of volunteers. The parade was amazing with everyone in blue and ending with the senior students drumming at the community stage.

The community dinner was delicious – and was sold out. 500 gourmet meals prepared and served. Thanks so much to Paul and Trish Anderson (and extended family), and to Alyce and Orrin Pritchard for their work leading up to and during the event. Thanks also to the team of volunteers who supported them with hours of effort. You made the event a success.

Thanks also to the volunteers who were up before the birds on Sunday morning to help with the market set up. Much appreciated.

Cross Country

Congratulations to Windham House for being the winning school cross country house. I would like to echo (paraphrase) Windham House Captain Miles Thornton’s words that he spoke at the conclusion of the event – We especially appreciate the effort and participation of those who do not necessarily enjoy running as a sport. Your participation made the day a success.

As always, we saw some amazing performances. There will be a sizeable contingent from Yackandandah Primary School at the upcoming District Cross Country.

Well done, Robyn on you organisation of the event!

Mountain Biking

The Yackandandah mountain bike team had another successful day at Falls Creek recently. Be sure to check out the photos and details in the rest of the newsletter. Well done team (including the parent support crew who made it happen).

End of Term

Next week is the final day of Term One. School will finish at 2:30 on Friday next week (4th April). Assembly will be at 2:10pm.

Michael Edwards
Principal

From the Office

Thank you

We want to say a big thank you to all the families who helped make Folk Festival a great success!
Your time and effort were greatly appreciated. Your help really made the event special, and we couldn’t have achieved what we have without you all.

Hoodies

After consultation with School Council and Junior School Council we have decided to introduce a hoodie option into the school uniform options. We have noticed a number of students choosing not to wear school uniform jumpers in favour of hoodies. The uniform hoodies will be in the school colour and have a logo the same as the jumpers and polo shirts. We encourage families to ensure their children are in school uniform. The jumper options will still be available, and families will have the choice of jumper and/or hoodie. We will let you know when the hoodies are available for purchase. The cost for the hoodies are $47 and the link to our order form is below.

Sport News

House Cross Country

Yesterday, we had our whole school Cross-Country Carnival at the Yackandandah Sports Park. With the autumn sunshine drying off the morning dew, it made for a perfect day for running. It was great to see the students competing to the best of their ability while earning points for their house. Congratulations to everyone who participated in this event, it was awesome to see you do your best and watch you cheer on your peers. It certainly was Hard Yakka! Congratulations to the winning house, Windham (Yellow) on 177 points! In second place was Hammond (Blue) on 173 points, third place was Wellsford (Red) with 169 points and in fourth place was Kars (Green) on 164 points. There was only 13 points between 1st and 4th place, which shows that every point really does count.

District Cross-Country

Next Term, in week 5, on Tuesday 20th May we have the District Cross Country event which will be held in Beechworth. In the senior age groups (9/10, 11, 12/13) up to 10 runners from each classification can qualify for the District event, however, students will need to demonstrate that they can run the course in a competitive time to qualify. I will check over the results and have them ready by Monday next week to share with the students. Next Term, closer to the date, I will arrange a meeting with the successful participants to discuss the District Carnival arrangements and to send home permission forms.

MTB- Falls Creek

YPS Second Overall Primary School at Victorian Interschools

The YPS Mountain Bike team traveled to Falls Creek last Friday to compete at the 2025 Victorian Interschools MTB Cross Country Championships.

There is a a great spirit amongst this group and it was exciting to welcome our first female students to the YPS team! With an increasing number of competitors, the school was able to quickly organise more shirts and the team looked terrific.

Congratulations to all of the riders for their determination, sportsmanship and sense of adventure! A special mention to Spencer D for winning Division 4 in a thrilling finish, and Sully L who made the podium in Division 5 by claiming third place.

YPS won second Overall Primary School - another fantastic achievement to follow up last month’s 3rd place at Nationals in Thredbo.
