Congratulations everyone on a terrific Term One. It can be difficult, especially for children, to see the progress in learning that is made on a day-by-day basis. Over a term, however, there is plenty to celebrate. I encourage you to congratulate your child on a solid term of learning – not linked to reports or scores but linked to personal learning growth.
A special shout out to the Foundation students who have completed their first term of primary school. The foundies have done a great job adapting to big school and we are very proud of their achievements. Well, done!
A reminder that school finishes today at 2:30pm, with assembly taking place in the court yard at 2:10pm.
PUPIL FREE DAY
Please note that the first day of Term Two, Tuesday April 22nd is a pupil free day. On that day school staff will be completing first aid training – a full day’s work.
ANZAC Day
On Friday of the first week of Term Two is ANZAC Day. While it is a public holiday, we encourage all our students to attend both the march and the service afterwards. The school choir will be singing during the service. Please wear school uniform for the march & service.
We meet by the bottom pub at about 9:30 in preparation for the parade and march together.

And just like that, we’re at the end of Term 1. Time flies when you’re having fun!
I wanted to sign off for the term with a celebration of some special work that has been happening in the 1/2 space over the last two months.
I harp on all the time about the importance of children having a sense of belonging and feelings of connectedness to school and community. It’s not something I’ve just concocted either, Maslow’s Hierarchy is a framework that suggests human motivation stems from 5 fundamental categories, and one of those is ‘Love & Belonging’.
Hanna and Ainsley created a unit of work all around community. The unit looked at what community’s need in order to make them function well. And yes, bakeries, supermarkets, education centres, councils, parks and sporting groups are all very important things to have when shaping a strong community; but there is something so much greater and far more powerful in fostering a community where people feel included and safe. That is, how we interact with one another, how we look out for each other and maintain respectful, healthy relationships.
In their unit this term, the 1/2 students not only learned about the amazing things communities have and indeed need, but they also got to work in teams and practise their positive social and emotional skills.
If you’d like to view their wonderful work, it can be found at the top of the stairs just up from the office.
Till next term…

District Cross-Country
Next Term, in week 5, on Tuesday 20th May we have the District Cross Country event which will be held in Beechworth. Next Term, closer to the date, I will arrange a meeting with the successful participants to discuss the District Carnival arrangements and to send home permission forms. Since we have many participants, some students will need to travel by car with a parent/s to the event since we can’t all fit on the bus. If parents are taking their own child to this event, please let me know, so you don’t get charged a bus fee.
Finally, I encourage all participants to keep up their running training over the school holidays to maintain your level of fitness and stamina for the upcoming District event. Good luck everyone!
