From the Principal

Canberra Camp
Yr. 5/6 students have returned from Canberra Camp. The camp was successful, and students gained plenty from the experience. Thank you to the staff and parent helpers who gave their extra time and effort to make the camp a success for the students. Huge thanks to Lauren for her organisation – camps like this one require planning up to two years in advance and there are so many variables to factor in. Well done!

Uniform
We have a collection of second-hand jumpers available free of charge. Please consider checking to see if there are any in your size before purchasing new. Don’t forget to label all your uniform items. Now that we have expanded the uniform options it is our hope that we will see fewer children coming to school out of uniform.

Start of school day
Please note that school yard supervision begins at 8:40. Children’s wellbeing and actions are the responsibility of their parents up to that point. Before School Care is open for bookings if required.

Social and Emotional Learning
In SEL over the past few weeks, students have been learning about all the different emotions that humans can experience. A program that can help students learn about their emotions, assist with labelling emotion and regulating emotions when required, is The Zones of Regulation (ZoR).
Over the past few years, our school has used this program in classrooms to assist students with healthy emotional regulation and normalising emotion. You’ll see below that the 4 coloured zones- Blue, Yellow, Red and Green, correspond to different emotions.

It is ever so important that when we use this program with children, we emphasise that all humans experience emotions and that being in a particular zone for a period is perfectly OK. However, if a particular emotion is making us feel uncomfortable or is affecting our relationships, we can use some tools to ease our feelings of discomfort. Some examples of regulation tools are: The Take 5 Breath, exercise/heavy work activities (push ups/hanging from bars), mindfulness activities, laughing, sensory fidgets, and happy baby pose.

Families may find it useful to use the ZoR language and regulation tools at home.

Enjoy your weekend.

This week's Hot Lunch is BLT/MLT Rolls.

Last week's student helpers Eleanor and Emily did an amazing job preparing a LOT of Fried Rice. Well done girls!

A quick reminder for all volunteers - please remember to sign in and out at the office when you come in for Hot Lunch duty.
There are still several volunteer spots to fill on the term 2 roster. Please reach out if you are able to help.
