From the Principal

Congratulations to all students, families and staff on a great term of learning at Yackandandah Primary School. Learning is a cumulative process and as such it can sometimes be difficult to notice the progress on a day-to-day basis. By pausing at the end of the term and reflecting we can appreciate the progress the students have made. It is certainly worth celebrating.

There is no one magic bullet or trick to getting the most out of school. It is a matter of persistent, consistent turning up and participating to the best of your ability. It is understanding that when things may seem difficult, that is normal and, in fact necessary for learning. It is also understanding that learning and progress looks different for everyone.

Thanks everyone for your efforts over the last term and enjoy the term break with your families.

Michael Edwards
Principal

Mental Health and Wellbeing Support

Engagement and Wellbeing
I was lucky enough to duck into the Senior space on Thursday to absorb myself into their Science Fair. This term, the 5/6 students have been learning about natural disasters like cyclones, volcanoes, flooding and droughts. While walking around the different exhibits the students had created and developed, it was clear to me that the learning in this Science unit was not just purposeful and rich but also fostered student voice, choice and HIGH engagement! I asked some of the students their thoughts around the unit and some responses were:

“I learned the facts about disasters first, then I enjoyed being creative and working on how I was going to show how tectonic plates work.”

“I liked that I got to choose how I could present my learning in different ways that suited me.”

“I liked that I got to work with my friends to do an earthquake simulation room.”

“I had choice in my learning.”

If you got to experience the amazing exhibit like I did, you would have noticed that the level of knowledge and understanding of natural disasters that our students had was phenomenal; I learned a thing or two myself.
I want to congratulate the Senior students and their teachers on a wonderful exhibit. Hats off to you all!

On a side note, I am happy the earthquake simulation room was only temporary, I survived every earthquake that day in my little office under the stairs. At least I’ll know what to do if there’s ever one in Yackandandah…

Enjoy the Spring break and we’ll see you back Week 1 of Term 4.

 Exciting Opportunity in Yackandandah!

We have a fantastic opportunity to bring a talented and passionate music teacher to Yackandandah. The amazing Carlia Van Hoorn is keen to come and teach if we can gather enough students.
Carlia graduated with honours in saxophone from the Melbourne Conservatorium in 2022, and completed her Master of Education in 2024. She's currently teaching classroom music, ensembles, and private lessons at Wangaratta High School.
She can teach:
All saxophones
Music theory
Aural skills
A little singing
Clarinet (beginner to intermediate)
Whether you're a total beginner or looking to refine your skills, this is a rare chance to learn from a pro — right here in Yackandandah!
If you or someone you know is interested, please send Tijana Simic message. Let’s make it happen and bring even more music to Yackandandah!
