In Victoria we celebrate World Teachers Day today (31st October). Like many professions, you only see the tip of the iceberg when it comes to a teacher’s work and dedication. Teaching is equally rewarding and challenging for many reasons. I would like to say a huge ‘Thank You’ to our teachers and support staff at our school (and all schools).
Our teachers are dedicated professionals who do their utmost for the children in our care. I am grateful as a principal, and as a parent who sent children to Yackandandah Primary School, for our teachers and the amazing work they do.
Michael Edwards
Principal
A friendly reminder that we have a couple of events coming up next week! Please take a moment to jump onto Compass to provide consent and make any necessary payments.
If you are experiencing any difficulties with Compass, please pop into the office where Sandra or Kerryn will be more than happy to help.
Hot Lunch Term 4
Hot Lunch payments are now due. Please make your payment via direct debit to the school bank account, using “T4 Hot Lunch” and your child’s last name as the reference. Thank you to all the families who have already made their payment!
This week’s helpers are Miles Thornton and Eleanor Glanville
Next week helpers are Emily Sheppard and Alfie Bayne
Congratulations to all our award recipients.

Artwork of the Week – Spooky Halloween Self Portraits!
This week’s Artwork of the Week goes to 5/6E for their spook-tacular Halloween self-portraits! The students have truly captured the creepy, kooky, and creative spirit of Halloween with their eerie designs and imaginative details.
A big well done to our talented artists: Evie, Hunter, Raff, Nico, Seb, Sara, and Sierra for their fang-tastic work!

Regional Hot Shots Tennis Competition
Nine enthusiastic Year 6 boys represented Yackandandah Primary School at the Regional Hot Shots Tennis Competition held at Barr Reserve in Wangaratta. Competing against 12 teams from across the region, the boys demonstrated impressive teamwork, persistence, and sportsmanship throughout the day.
After four easier matches, the Yackandandah team won their pool in a tense final match, securing a place in the Grand Final. Despite a strong effort, they were outplayed by a skilful team from St Bernard’s Primary School and finished the day as runners-up — a fantastic achievement!
The boys were proud of their performance and the way they represented Yackandandah Primary School both on and off the court. They also showed a wonderful sense of inclusion and support by volunteering to help out another team who were short of a player when they were rostered off for a Yackandandah match — a great example of teamwork and sportsmanship in action.
A big thank you to Bree Attwood for assisting with driving and capturing great photos on the day, and to Robyn for her support in entering the team and coordinating all the logistics.
Congratulations to Alfie, Jim, Peter, Sebastian, Raff, Dane, Lenny, Ted, and Finn on a terrific effort and for showcasing such positive sporting spirit!

Bike Riding
In next week’s newsletter, I will share the schedule of dates for each class’s bike riding session.
Foundation, Grade 1, and Grade 2 students will be riding at school on the basketball court and oval.
Grade 3 to Grade 6 students will be riding on the bike rail trail, as they did last year, heading from school towards Osbornes Flat during their allocated PE class. Please note, there will only be one bike ride per class this year.
We are seeking two parent volunteers from the Grade 3–6 classes to join us on the rides to assist with supervision and safety.
In preparation, please check your child’s bike to ensure the brakes, tyres, chain, and gears are all in good working order. A helmet is essential, so make sure your child has one or can borrow one.
If your child does not have a bike, please let me know — I may be able to arrange for another family to share one. And if your child still uses training wheels, that’s absolutely fine! They’ll still have the opportunity to join in and ride around the basketball court during their session.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me at robyn.wilson3@education.vic.gov.au if you have any questions.
