School Concert
Congratulations to all the students on a wonderful school concert yesterday evening. Each class performed an item along with performances by the choir and the two bands “Pippa and the Yack St Boys” and “The Blue and White Stripes”. There was even a beautiful solo rendition of a Frank Sinatra classic. There were fantastic reviews from those watching including “That was the best school concert I have ever seen!” Thanks to Miriam for pulling the concert together and working with the classes to practice, polish and present their items. Thanks also to Brendan for technical direction and the terrific videos that kept the packed house entertained between the performances.

OSHC
School Council is currently reviewing a submission from ‘Their Care’, a private provider of OSHC services to administer our OSHC service. Our aim is to ensure the ongoing viability of the OSHC service. If you have any feedback regarding the service, including the possibility of outsourcing, please speak to any school councillor, Kerryn in the office or Michael.

Artwork of the Week

This week in Art, students in Year 5/6 have been exploring cyanotype prints, a technique where fabric coated in a light sensitive emulsion creates an image when exposed to sunlight. After arranging found materials on the fabric, they timed their prints from 5 - 10mins outside in direct sunlight. The fabric was then washed for 5mins in water and hydrogen peroxide. Enjoy this stunning effects created on a blue bird day!!

This week's Hot Lunch was Fried Rice.
A great lunch to round out a fun week of bike rides, transition days and concerts :)

Bike Riding Program Wrap-Up
A huge thank you to our wonderful parent helpers - Shelby Sheather, Faith Deans, Michael Doyne, Emma McNicol, Andrew McInerney, Kiera Maybury, Hannah Glanville-Jones, Jared Van Duinen, Melissa Killen and Orrin Pritchard, Jane Dowsley - for assisting with our bike-riding sessions this week.

We were fortunate to enjoy perfect weather throughout the program and were able to complete all sessions without delay. Foundation to Grade 2 students took part in activities on the basketball court and courtyard, supported by our dedicated parent volunteers. Using traffic lights, pedestrian and stop signs, and a zebra crossing, students learned about road safety and the importance of sharing space with others. They practised keeping to the left, slowing down on bends, and walking their bikes across the bridge.
It was wonderful to see every student having a go and enjoying the course together. A special thank you to Judd Maybury for running the traffic lights and assisting across two sessions.

Students in Years 3 to 6 headed out onto the bike rail trail towards Osbornes Flat. Many reached the ‘gravel pit’ - about 4.8 km along the track - before turning around for the return ride. Along the way, students successfully navigated steep sections, sweeping bends, sharp corners, bridges, descents, potholes and the occasional stick or piece of debris. They also encountered walkers, other bike riders and dog walkers, and were reminded to keep left, slow down and share the trail respectfully.

Thank you to all families for providing bikes for these sessions. It truly was a team effort - and a lot of fun!

It’s great to see more students out and about on their bikes as the weather continues to warm up.

Thanks for your ongoing support,

Robyn Wilson

Melbourne Football Club Visit
On Tuesday, our Grade 5/6 students had the exciting opportunity to meet several special guests from the Melbourne Football Club - Jake Melksham, Harvey Langford, Kysaiah Pickett, new draftee Latrelle Pickett and AFLW star Alyssa Bannan. Students enjoyed a Q&A session, lined up for those all-important autographs, posed for a group photo, and capped off the visit with a fun game of kick-to-kick with both AFL and AFLW players.

Two of our students, Peter and Jim - absolute die-hard Melbourne supporters - were especially thrilled to score a photo with Kysaiah Pickett and Latrelle Pickett.

Enjoy some of the photos included!

Regional Kanga 8s Cricket – Tournament Report
Last Friday, 21st November, our Yackandandah Primary School cricketers travelled to Mooroopna to compete in the Regional Kanga 8s tournament. We were excited to enter both a boys and a girls team this year, and our students represented the school with enthusiasm, resilience and true Yack spirit!

The girls team battled through three very tough matches, facing off against both the top-ranked and third-ranked sides in the competition. They continued to work hard, supported one another, and finished the day strong with a finals match, placing a fantastic 7th overall. Well done to Lara, Olive, Charlotte, Pippa, Grace W, Ivy, Lucia-Mary and Billie!

Our boys’ team had a brilliant run, winning all three of their preliminary games and earning a place in the grand final—and with it, a chance at progressing to the State finals. In a tight, exciting contest, the boys narrowly missed the win but proudly returned home as Regional Runners Up with a pennant flag to show for it. Congratulations to Will M, Jim, Alfie, Will B, Lenny, Florian, Peter and Miles! And perhaps a small sigh of relief for our music teacher, as a State final would have clashed with the school concert!

A huge thank you to our parent drivers—Bron Westbrook, Jervis Whitley and Kelly Creamer—for making the day possible. Earle, who accompanied the teams, thoroughly enjoyed supporting the students and was incredibly proud of their sportsmanship, teamwork and behaviour throughout the day.

Earle Mason
