From the Principal

Term 1 is all done!
Firstly, I would like to thank the Yackandandah Primary School community for a wonderful start to the school year. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as Acting Principal and look forward to returning to my Leading Teacher role in Term 2. I feel very grateful to work in a school where students, staff and families come together as fair, respectful and supportive members of our community.

Michael will be returning over the break and Cindy will commence her new role on Monday the 20th of April.

Cross Country
We had a fantastic day yesterday at our school cross country running event at the Sports Park. I was incredibly proud of all our students as they gave it their all, even if they were feeling a little nervous at the start. There was plenty of cheering for teammates, words of encouragement and celebrations for every runner — a wonderful display of school spirit! Well done, Team! Many thanks to Robyn Wilson, our Sport Coordinator, for organising such a smooth and successful event.

Junior School Council
Engagement was very high today as our Junior School Councillors organised a wonderful Funny Bunny morning for students. Classes participated in a round-robin of bunny-themed activities, with some highlights including the Bunny’s Treasure game and an obstacle course through the playground. Well done to the JSC team for their organisation and preparation — I know they have been working towards this day for many weeks. I look forward to seeing what they bring to the school next term.

Have a happy holiday and we’ll see you all back in Term 2.

Stace Hogan
Acting Principal

Art News

The Wall of Friends has arrived… and it’s bursting with personality!

Just in time to sneak into the final Yack newsletter for Term 1, our Art Room has been transformed into a vibrant mini gallery, thanks to the incredible efforts of our Year 5/6, Year 3/4 and Year 2/3 students.

Inspired by contemporary artist Thom Roberts, these portraits capture the world through a wonderfully wacky lens. Think bold, surreal, playful, and packed with character (and maybe a few extra teeth or zig-zag eyebrows along the way!).

In just two short weeks, our students have created a collection that is equal parts imaginative, hilarious, and downright impressive. The Wall of Friends is not just art, it’s a celebration of creativity, individuality, and seeing the world a little differently.

Safe to say, we’re very proud of this colourful crew. High five, Yackandandah Primary School!

Stay creative,

Caz & Mandy

Sport News

House Cross Country
Yesterday, we had our whole school Cross-Country Carnival at the Yackandandah Sports Park. With the autumn sunshine drying off the morning dew, it made for a perfect day for running. It was great to see the students competing to the best of their ability while earning points for their house.

Congratulations to everyone who participated in this event, it was awesome to see you do your best and watch you cheer on your peers. It certainly was Hard Yakka!

1st place - Windham (Yellow) on 193 points

2nd place - Hammond (Blue) on 187 points

3rd place was Wellsford (Red) with 173 points

4th place was Kars (Green) on 135 points.

There was only 6 points between 1st and 2nd place, which shows that every point really does count.

District Cross-Country
Next Term, (on a date yet to be announced) we have the District Cross Country event which will be held in Beechworth. In the senior age groups (9/10, 11, 12/13) up to 10 runners from each classification can qualify for the District event, however, students will need to demonstrate that they can run the course in a competitive time to qualify. I have checked over the results and will share these with the students today. Next Term, closer to the date, I will arrange a meeting with the successful participants to discuss the District Carnival arrangements.

All the best in your sporting pursuits,

Robyn
