It has been great to get back to Yackandandah Primary School after a stint of Long Service Leave. Thank you Stacey for taking on the principal role in my absence and helping the school to thrive in Term One, along with her other duties as Wellbeing Leader. Stacey has more than earned a break!
We welcome Cindy Rebbechi (Mrs Rebbechi) as co-principal on Mondays and Tuesdays for the rest of the year. Cindy comes with a strong professional background, and I am eager to have her input into our school. You can approach Cindy just as you would myself or any other staff member at our school.
I have thoroughly enjoyed seeing how the children have settled in this year, especially our Foundation students who already look like classroom veterans, showing great learning. I’m looking forward to more of the same for the rest of the year.
Anzac Day
Anzac Day is this coming Saturday (tomorrow). Each year students from Yackandandah Primary School and other local schools are invited by the RSL to join the march and service for the 10am Anzac Day service in the Memorial Gardens in Yackandandah.
We would very much appreciate students gathering at 9:30 by the bottom pub in Yackandandah to join the march and following service. Please have the children wear their school uniforms. We understand that some students may be representing other organisations, such as scouts and will dress for that.
The choir will sing the National Anthem and another song during the service, so we strongly encourage all choir children to attend along with the other students. Our senior school leaders will lay a wreath on behalf of Yackandandah Primary School.
We look forward to seeing you there!
Michael Edwards
Principal
OSHC Statements
Final OSHC statements have been emailed out to families this week. As the service is now longer operated through the school prompt payment off all outstanding accounts would be greatly appreciated. If you have any questions about your account, please call into the school office.
Uniforms ordering on Compass
Please ensure that when placing uniform orders on Compass, you click the customise button to select your child’s size.Once your order is ready, you’ll receive an email notifying you that it’s available for collection. Please note, uniforms will not be given directly to students unless this has been requested by a parent.
Voluntary Family Contributions
Thank you to all the families who have paid the contributions for this year. Yackandandah Primary School rely on these financial contributions to assist us with the purchasing of art, music and physical education equipment and resources which in turn, supports us in offering specialist French, Music and Art classes and allows us to enhance the learner experience. These contributions also enable us to enhance the learner experience.
The contributions can either be paid via Compass or directly into the school bank account.
Below is a summary of the suggested voluntary contributions per child. When paying into the school bank account please ensure you put your name and contributions in the reference.
This week: Sara Davison and Will Boddenberg
Next Week: Isla Cleverley and Zack Dickeson
Congratulations to all our award recipients.

Welcome back!
Firstly, I would like to acknowledge the wonderful commitment to school attendance demonstrated by our student’s last term. By the close of Term 1, 96% of students had fewer than 10 days absent, a fantastic achievement. This result reflects our community working together to value and support positive school attendance. Well, done, everyone!
Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)
The beginning of Term 2 will see our students revisit learning from last term, namely, getting our school values back into our minds and continuing with our work as fair, respectful learners.
However, for the most part of this term, students are going to be learning about help seeking, as part of the Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships program. The help seeking behaviours of children and young people are fundamental to their mental health and wellbeing. Promoting help-seeking behaviours supports students to develop confidence, self-awareness and a deeper understanding of their wellbeing needs.
Our students will talk about ways in which they can ask for help, who they can seek help from and the positive benefits that help seeking can have. They’ll participate in different activities, for example, role plays, class discussions and using relevant scenarios that support their learning. Families may like to have conversations at home around help seeking to support their child’s learning.
The Hub is Back!
After a 2-term hiatus, the much-loved inclusive play space at Yackandandah PS has returned. The Hub opens Mondays and Wednesdays at recess time and is located up on the fake grass area next to the Foundation/1 classrooms. Sometimes, the yard at break can be a big, busy place for kids, the Hub offers a space for low, slow play. Equipment in the Hub allows students to draw, colour, build and share in respectful play. The children can often be found in the space building towers with the mega blocks or playing farms and zoos with the animals.

A big thank you to everyone who has jumped on Compass and placed their hot lunch orders — the feedback has been fantastic!
We’re excited to kick things off next Friday, 1st May, with our delicious Egg & Bacon/Halloumi Rolls. Yum!

Beginning this week, we will be running the Jump Rope for Heart program for five weeks, finishing in week 5 with a ‘Jump Off’ day on Monday 25th May.
To participate in this program, you need to register your child/ren using the link www.jumprope.org.au/parents.
While Jump Rope for Heart will involve all students participating in PE classes, the fundraising part is optional. We encourage everyone to participate in this, but will understand if you do not wish to participate.
Once your child/ren are registered you can set up their own secure fundraising page. You’ll get access to additional skipping trick videos, post updates to your page so family and friends can follow their progress to help raise funds online.
We are encouraging online donations only, for ease of managing the program and ordering online prizes for students at the conclusion of the program.
I have sent all families an email this week via Compass for more information about this fantastic program.
Currently, we have 20 students registered and an incredible $1,151 already raised! Our original school target was $1,000, and thanks to this fantastic effort, we’ve already exceeded it - so we’ve now set a new goal of $2,000. Thank you for your continued support of Jump Rope for Heart and our YPS students!
Keep updated via the school newsletter, where I’ll post more information and track our progress over the coming weeks.
In the meantime, happy skipping!
