Today we had a visit from players from the AFLW Melbourne Football club. Students from Yrs. 3-6 had the opportunity to ask questions and interact with the players and get a sense of what is involved in competing at the highest level. Thanks, Robyn, for organising this opportunity!
Yesterday all students watched the Science of Snot – an entertaining show put on to teach kids all about… snot – why we have it, what is it and how does it work. The performers certainly knew their target audience as the children were thoroughly entertained, and well informed about mucus.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the parents who are helping us with Hot Lunch Friday. With Hannah Glanville leading the way we are fortunate to have parent volunteers make hot lunches happen. Everyone looks forward to Friday lunch.
I would like to remind families that our school yard is not supervised before 8:40am. Before school care is available via Their Care. Parents are responsible for their children’s wellbeing, and their children’s actions, in the school yard prior to 8:40.

Art Excursions to MAMA – Murray Art Museum Albury
On Tuesday 2nd June, F/1K, F/1R and 1/2 T will be going on an Art excursion to MAMA and the Albury Botanical Gardens.
On Wednesday 3rd June 3/4A, 3/4E and 2/3R will be going on an Art excursion to MAMA and the Albury Botanical Gardens.
Students will soon embark on an exciting creative adventure to MAMA, where they will explore inspiring original artworks and discover the stories, ideas and techniques behind them through a guided gallery tour. This enriching experience will give students the opportunity to view art in a real exhibition space and engage in thoughtful discussions about the works on display.
Each class will also take part in a hands-on workshop connected to the current exhibitions, allowing students to experiment, create and respond to art in their own unique way.
After our gallery visit, students, staff and parent volunteers will enjoy a relaxing lunch together at the beautiful Albury Botanical Gardens before heading back to school.
Both excursions will depart at 9:20am and return at approximately 2:45pm. Students are encouraged to bring a hat and/or warm coat or beanie depending on the weather forecast, along with a packed lunch and drink bottle.
This exciting excursion is proudly supported by the Visual Arts department at YPS, with a cost of $10.00 per student, the permission forms are live on Compass.
We are thrilled to offer our students this unique opportunity to experience art beyond the classroom. Visiting a gallery is a wonderful way to inspire creativity, spark curiosity and encourage students to appreciate and connect with the work of artists in a meaningful and memorable way.

Artwork of the Week
Something magical has been blooming in the art room! Inspired by French artist, author and illustrator Hervé Tullet, students have been exploring creativity through imagination, colour and collaboration.
Year 3/4A began the artwork adventure by following Tullet’s fun and fast-paced instructions — “draw a dot, another dot, a circle, lots of circles!” Using long rolls of paper, students swapped places and experimented with primary colours, and before long, a vibrant field of flowers began to emerge.
Year 2/3R then added their creative touch, working with secondary colours to paint over and around the circles, dots and swirls already created. Finally, Year 3/4E took on the important role of adding the finishing details — carefully drawing outlines, bugs and insects using only black paint.
The result is a stunning collaborative artwork full of colour, movement and imagination, now proudly displayed in the 3/4A, 3/4E and 2/3R classrooms.

Last week, we started the Jump Rope for Heart program. This program will run for five weeks, finishing in week 5 with a ‘Jump Off’ day on Monday 25th May.
You can still register your child/ren using the link www.jumprope.org.au/parents at any time over the remaining 2 weeks.
Currently, we have 55 students registered and 45 students with donations with a whopping total of $6064 in fundraising! Our school target has now been raised again from $6,064 to $6,500. That’s incredible! Thank you everyone for your generous support and donations.
It’s been an exciting time watching the students learn new skills and share them with each other over the lunch and recess breaks, as well as during sport lessons.
The program, along with all donations will end on the 22nd May, so I have time to order prizes for students before the end of term.
Thank you everyone for supporting the Jump Rope for Heart program.
In the meantime, happy skipping!
Robyn
