I have been informed by Indigo Shire Council that there will be some roadside guttering works taking place on the north side of Hammond St at the Hammond – Wellsford St intersection. The works will involve redirecting storm water flow to reduce potential flooding down Wellsford St and into High St. I’m not sure exactly when the works are due to start, but it may impact parking and traffic flow in the area, particularly around that busy pick up and drop off time. Please take care when the works begin. I asked the representative from Indigo Shire Council to keep the damaged drain, guttering and adjacent areas of Wellsford St outside our school in mind for the next round of capital works as the area can present a potential hazard for pedestrians, especially at those busy times.

Head Lice Reminder
We have recently had a number of reported cases of head lice (nits) at school. Head lice are common among primary school-aged children and are spread through direct head-to-head contact.
We kindly ask all families to regularly check their child’s hair and commence treatment if live lice are found. Regular checking and early treatment are the best ways to help prevent the spread within our school community.
Children may return to school once treatment has started. To help reduce the spread, we also encourage long hair to be tied back where possible.
Thank you for your support and cooperation.
Compass Reminder
A friendly reminder to families to please check Compass regularly for important updates, permission forms, upcoming events and student absences.
Permission forms for excursions and school activities are now primarily completed through Compass, so checking the app regularly will help ensure nothing is missed. Families can also use Compass to enter student absences and late arrivals.

The students and teaching staff at Yackandandah Primary School are incredibly excited to announce that they came 10th place in Victoria Rocks - a times tables competition run by Times Tables Rock Stars.
Victoria Rocks required children to correctly answer as many multiplication and division questions as possible, to give their class and school the best chance of winning.
The competition was fierce with 12,601,226 questions answered collectively by 28,829 students from more than 379 schools and 2,191 classes!
Our school stats were astonishing too. On average our top class answered 1,328 questions correctly per student, with the best performing student, Nate Millward, answering an amazing 8,635 questions correctly in total (and finishing 26th in the State!).
Yackandandah Primary School makes use of Times Tables Rock Stars to help students develop their automatic recall of times tables and is a program that can be used at home as well as school. The advice is to do a little bit often – 5 minutes every day can make a big difference!
Our most valuable players in each class were:
2/3R – Ed Hogan
3/4A – Eddie Crispin
3/4E – Cobie Flower
5/6B – Renn Thompson
5/6L – Nate Millward

Art Excursions to MAMA – Murray Art Museum Albury
On Tuesday 2nd June, F/1K, F/1R and 1/2 T will be going on an Art excursion to MAMA and the Albury Botanical Gardens.
On Wednesday 3rd June 3/4A, 3/4E and 2/3R will be going on an Art excursion to MAMA and the Albury Botanical Gardens.
Students will soon embark on an exciting creative adventure to MAMA, where they will explore inspiring original artworks and discover the stories, ideas and techniques behind them through a guided gallery tour. This enriching experience will give students the opportunity to view art in a real exhibition space and engage in thoughtful discussions about the works on display.
Each class will also take part in a hands-on workshop connected to the current exhibitions, allowing students to experiment, create and respond to art in their own unique way.
After our gallery visit, students, staff and parent volunteers will enjoy a relaxing lunch together at the beautiful Albury Botanical Gardens before heading back to school.
Both excursions will depart at 9:20am and return at approximately 2:45pm. Students are encouraged to bring a hat and/or warm coat or beanie depending on the weather forecast, along with a packed lunch and drink bottle.
This exciting excursion is proudly supported by the Visual Arts department at YPS, with a cost of $10.00 per student, the permission forms are live on Compass.
We are thrilled to offer our students this unique opportunity to experience art beyond the classroom. Visiting a gallery is a wonderful way to inspire creativity, spark curiosity and encourage students to appreciate and connect with the work of artists in a meaningful and memorable way.
Caz & Mandy
Keen artists at work in the busy SMART room studio (Specialist, Music and ART!). Colour mixing with the three primary colours to make new colours of green, purple and orange magically appear. We are exploring and experimenting with acrylic paint and learning how to use the colour wheel as a tool for mixing different colours.

A huge shoutout to our amazing Yack families taking on the Coastrek challenge on the Mornington Peninsula! Team “Shuffling Sisters” set off at 6am and are trekking an incredible 50km to raise awareness and funds for Beyond Blue, supporting mental health and wellbeing across Australia.
Sending this from the 10km mark, they still have a long journey ahead, walking right through until near dusk! With 11 Yack PS kids (and 14 Yack kids altogether!) cheering them on from home, we are so proud of their determination, community spirit and commitment to such an important cause.
We wish Team “Shuffling Sisters” all the very best for the rest of their trek and thank them for making a difference for mental health awareness.
