Student Dress Code Policy
Each year we review the Student Dress Code Policy.  School Council has raised no concerns with the current dress code policy, however if you wish to provide any feedback the policy will be reviewed again at the next School Council meeting on July 20^th. The policy can be found on our website HERE.

School Infrastructure Inquiry
Schools For Our Future is conducting a public inquiry into infrastructure in public schools across Australia.

The inquiry is seeking submissions from students, teachers, principals, support staff, parents and family members, governments, organisations and individuals with an interest in education and the future of public schools.

You can make a submission as an individual or on behalf of an organisation. Submissions will remain open until June 30th, 2026.

Submissions will not be published without permission, and individuals will not be identified in the Inquiry's report.

Attendance Reminder
There are currently a number of unexplained absences recorded on Compass. We kindly ask families to please review these absences and provide an explanation via Compass, or alternatively email the school with the reason for their child's absence.

Signing Students In and Out
To help us maintain accurate attendance records and ensure the safety of all students, we kindly remind families that students arriving late to school or leaving early must be signed in or out through the school office.

If your child arrives after the school day has commenced, please accompany them to the office to be signed in before they go to class.

Similarly, if you need to collect your child before the end of the school day, please come to the office to sign them out before leaving the school grounds.

Please note that submitting an attendance note through Compass provides us with the reason for your child's absence, late arrival or early departure; however, it does not sign your child in or out of school.

Signing students in and out through the office is an important part of our duty of care and helps us ensure we know who is on site at all times.

Our Junior School Councillors have been busy organising a Talent Show for students on the last day of term.

Due to the capacity of the public hall, this will be a students-only event and unfortunately we won't be able to open it to parents and families on the day. We appreciate your understanding.

The good news? Our talented performers will have the opportunity to showcase their acts at assemblies throughout Term 3, so there will be plenty of chances to see your children shine. We can't wait to share those moments with you!

We've had reports of head lice within our school community. Head lice are a common part of primary school life and can affect any child. We encourage families to regularly check their child's hair and take prompt action if lice are detected.

The Victorian Department of Health recommends weekly hair checks using the conditioner and comb method, as early detection is the best way to prevent the spread of head lice within our school community.

Bonjour tout le monde!

In French during Week 1 of Term 3, we will be celebrating Bastille Day or La Fête Nationale- an important day on the French calendar!

Students are encouraged to dress up and wear French inspired clothes to school- red, white & blue; striped tops, beret’s, neck scarves etc. If your child does not want to dress up, then school uniform should be worn as usual.

Tuesday 14 July is Bastille Day dress up day for F/1K, F/1ER and 1/2T.

Wednesday 15 July is Bastille Day dress up day for 2/3R, all 3/4 and all 5/6 students.

It will be a lot of fun, and Mandy & I are planning a petite collation (small snack) to accompany the days’ celebrations.

I am still looking for one or two parent helpers for each session on Wednesday 15 July, to help with simple food preparation and clean up. Let me know if you can help for an hour during the day. (Dressing up is optional, but highly encouraged!)

Alfred William Eustace, migrated to Australia with his family, and arrived in Chiltern in 1851. He worked as a shepherd on the Eldorado Run, and he always carried a small box of oil paints in his swag, so that he could experiment with colour and painting techniques. Sourcing art materials was difficult, so he would paint on red box and white box gum leaves.

Building on from our recent excursion to MAMA, students in Year 3/4 A, 3/4E and 2/3R have been looking at the remarkable gumleaf paintings by Alfred W Eustace on red box and white box leaves, found in the Chiltern Mt Pilot National Park. In Art this week, we used paint pens to draw miniature landscapes on gumleaves, found in Beechworth and the Chiltern and Mt Pilot National Park.

Helpers Needed for Term 3 Hot Lunches!
We're looking for parent volunteers to assist Hannah with our Friday Hot Lunch program during Term 3. Volunteers help prepare lunches in our school kitchen, making this much-loved program possible for our students.

Regional Cross Country Wrap-Up
Congratulations to the seven students who represented our school at the Regional Cross Country event in Benalla last Friday. We are incredibly proud of their efforts on the day.

Winter Sports Carnival – Years 3–6
The Winter Sports Carnival for students in Years 3–6 will take place in Wodonga on Friday 17th July (the first Friday back in Term 3). Our school will be competing against other local schools within our network.

We have entered five sports again this year: Volleyball, T-Ball, Soccer, AFL, and Netball. Teams and divisions have already been submitted. The carnival will begin at 10:00am for all sports, except AFL, which will commence at 10:30am.

Students will play multiple games throughout the day against different schools, often with little time between matches. To help them stay energised and comfortable, please ensure your child brings:

• Plenty of food and drinks
• Spare warm clothing, including a jacket and/or blanket to keep warm when not playing

Some sports may require additional equipment alongside the school uniform or the playing uniform provided by the school. While none of the following items are compulsory, students may choose to bring:

• Mouth guard
• Shin guards
• Helmet (if preferred)
• Long socks (to wear over or under shin guards)
• Football boots, soccer boots, or other sport-specific footwear

Some venues will have snacks available for purchase. Students attending Kelly Park (Netball and Soccer) will also have the option to purchase a BBQ sausage. Students attending the AFL venue will not have access to a canteen.

If your child is bringing money, please ensure it is kept in a clearly labelled wallet or bag. Please note that the school cannot be held responsible for lost money.

Parents and families are warmly invited to come along and support their child/ren throughout the day. We recommend bringing a chair, blanket, snacks, and drinks to stay comfortable during the event.

First Aid with St Johns
This week we had Sarah visit from St Johns First Aid to teach all our students some elements of First Aid. Some things that we learnt were:

- The importance of having a First Aid kit and how to use some of the items in a First Aid kit

- Following the below action plan:

*DRS (Danger, Response, Send for help) for Foundation

*DRSABCD (Danger, Response, Send for help, Airway, Breathing, CPR, Defibrillation) for Grade 1/2, Grade 3/4 and Grade 5/6 classes

- How to perform CPR (Grade 5/6 students only) – practising on a pillow is a good way to reinforce the skills

- How to contact emergency services

- The ‘Recovery Position’ – families can look online for videos of how to perform this

- First Aid scenarios using the Johnny Bear Picture Story book for the F/1 class

All students received a certificate for participating in the St Johns First Aid session. At the bottom of the certificate is an icon for downloading the ‘First Aid Action Hero game’ on your phone or iPad. It is a free, interactive game which reviews some of knowledge learnt from the session.

Top tip: Have your emergency contact details located somewhere in your home – ready to access when needed in case of an emergency - on the fridge or close to where you store your phone. Tell and show your child/ren where you keep this information, so they know where to access it if needed.

Lost Property
Our lost property collection at OSHC is continuing to grow, so to make it easier for families to locate missing belongings, we have set up a Lost Property Box at OSHC. Families are welcome to check the box at any time.

We encourage all items to be clearly labelled with your child's name, as this helps us return lost belongings quickly and easily.

It's school holidays time again!
We would like to let you know that the upcoming school holiday program will be held at Beechworth Primary School. All future holiday programs will continue to operate at Yackandandah. Our staff will be working alongside the Beechworth team.
