From the Principal

Congratulations to all the students and staff for their effort and achievements this term. I have been particularly encouraged by the high level of engagement or ‘buy in’ from the students. Parents and teachers can work very hard, but unless the child makes the decision to ‘buy in’ there will be limited learning. This is why I am especially proud of our students and their commitment to learning.

Please remember that the school day ends at 2:30 today. I wish you all a peaceful term break and hope you find plenty of quality family time doing whatever it is that makes your family special.

The first day of Term Three is Monday 13th July.

Michael Edwards
Principal

Mental Health and Wellbeing Support

And just like that, we're halfway through the year.

Wow, time really does fly!

Term 2 has been a busy and rewarding term, with many exciting activities and opportunities on offer for our students. From a wellbeing perspective, these experiences add significant value to learning by providing students with opportunities to connect with their peers, build relationships and engage with the broader community in meaningful ways. Throughout the term, students have enjoyed a range of enriching experiences, including the art excursion to MAMA, the Year 5/6 Sovereign Hill camp, sporting events, a French drumming incursion, a theatre performance, Jump Rope for Heart and our Grandparents and Special Friends Day.

Once again, our Junior School Council has organised a fun and engaging end of term event with Yack’s Got Talent? I have thoroughly enjoyed watching this process unfold over the past few weeks, as it has provided students with a wonderful opportunity to showcase their talents, develop confidence, and exercise voice and agency. We have seen a range of impressive acts, and classroom teachers have selected 12 finalists to progress to the Grand Finale.

A special thank you goes to Brendan, who has worked alongside the Junior School Councillors and empowered them to take ownership of the event. From MCing and backstage management to sound and lighting, students have been involved in every aspect of the production. It has been a fantastic example of student leadership in action, with the event designed by students, for students.

What a treat!

We hope your children enjoy a restful break and we'll see you all back for another round of awesomeness at Yackandandah Primary School in Term 3.

Artwork of the Week

One of the best things in the art room, is when the younger students can see what the Year 5/6s are working on and say, "when do we get to do that?"!! 5/6L and 5/6B have been using Stop Motion Studio on the ipads. On Monday they created plasticine creatures to feature in their stop motion movies! Check out these curious characters and watch out for some mini-movie premieres next term!!

Sport News

Winter Sports Carnival – Years 3–6

The Winter Sports Carnival for students in Years 3–6 will take place in Wodonga on Friday 17th July (the first Friday back in Term 3). Our school will be competing against other local schools within our network.

We have entered five sports again this year: Volleyball, T-Ball, Soccer, AFL, and Netball. Teams and divisions have already been submitted. The carnival will begin at 10:00am for all sports, except AFL, which will commence at 10:30am.

Students will play multiple games throughout the day against different schools, often with little time between matches. To help them stay energised and comfortable, please ensure your child brings:

  • Plenty of food and drinks
  • Spare warm clothing, including a jacket and/or blanket to keep warm when not playing

Some sports may require additional equipment alongside the school uniform or the playing uniform provided by the school. While none of the following items are compulsory, students may choose to bring:

  • Mouth guard
  • Shin guards
  • Helmet (if preferred)
  • Long socks (to wear over or under shin guards)
  • Football boots, soccer boots, or other sport-specific footwear

Some venues will have snacks available for purchase. Students attending Kelly Park (Netball and Soccer) will also have the option to purchase a BBQ sausage. Students attending the AFL venue will not have access to a canteen.

If your child is bringing money, please ensure it is kept in a clearly labelled wallet or bag. Please note that the school cannot be held responsible for lost money.

Parents and families are warmly invited to come along and support their child/ren throughout the day. We recommend bringing a chair, blanket, snacks, and drinks to stay comfortable during the event.

Venues

  • AFL – Wodonga Racecourse
  • Netball – Kelly Park Netball Courts
  • Soccer – Kelly Park
  • Volleyball – Victory Lutheran College
  • T-Ball – Willow Park

We look forward to a fantastic day of sport, teamwork, and school spirit.

If your child isn’t attending the Carnival, please email Robyn Wilson robyn.wilson3@education.vic.gov.au
