Reports from this year’s NAPLAN tests will be sent home either today or early next week. At a school level we look at NAPLAN results in a general, school wide sense. For example, if Writing results are lower than we expected we analyse why this may be the case, or if Reading results are higher than expected we may consider what worked well.

We don’t rely on individual NAPLAN results as they are less reliable than the day to day work that students do in class as a measure of learning progress. NAPLAN results should be considered one point of data on one day for a part of the curriculum – and results, high, low or otherwise should be considered in that context.

Next Wednesday the school T-ball team will travel to the regional finals to compete against other regional winners. Good luck to the team and I hope they enjoy a challenge regardless of the result.

CALL FOR ARTISTS EOI Due Date Extended to Monday 31st August 2026!!

The Yackandandah Folk Festival Street Parade sub-committee is seeking a creative artist to design and curate the 30th Anniversary Opening Street Parade in March 2027.

This is a unique opportunity to work with representatives from four local schools, Kindergarten, community groups and businesses to create a vibrant, visually exciting parade. A suggested theme is ‘Neon 90’s’, or you may propose your own concept.

This paid role includes:

• Developing the parade’s creative direction
• Delivering two community workshops
• Collaborating with a highly engaged regional community

Artist fees are aligned with NAVA guidelines, with additional support for materials and venue provided.

Inspired by Alfred William Eustace's creativity and resourcefulness, our Foundation/Year 1 students stepped into the shoes of this early Australian artist. Using paper leaves as their own canvases, they explored colour, pattern and texture to create a collection of beautiful artworks. Each piece is unique, showcasing the students' imagination while celebrating the connection between art, nature and our local history.

Last week's senior student helpers, Savannah and Grace, did an amazing job putting together 140 or so Bacon & Egg Rolls - and also made some very snazzy rainbow fruit platters! 

House Athletics Help Needed

The House Athletics Carnival is taking place on Wednesday, August 12 in Albury (the back-up day is August 13). To help make this day a success, we do need the assistance of many parents, carers and other adults.

No more parent helpers needed, thank you for everyone who has volunteered their time. 

EVENTS

5–8-year-olds will compete in:

• sprint running
• distance running
• long jump
• soft shot
• vortex throw
• jumping sack race
• bean bag race
• mini hurdles
• bounce, catch, and run

9–13-year-olds will compete in:

• sprint running (100m)
• distance running (200m)
• long jump
• shot put
• discus
• high jump
• triple jump
• hurdles

Information for the Competitors

Depart school: 9:10am

Event Starts: 9:50am

Depart Albury Athletics track: 2:30pm

Return to school: 3:00pm

• The carnival will be held at the athletics track in Albury – part of the Les O’Brien Sports precinct.
• There is no canteen available on the day, so please bring plenty of food and drink.
• Be sure to wear your ‘house’ colours and weather-appropriate clothing, such as a hat if it is sunny. If you are not sure of your ‘house’ colour, check with you teacher.
• Children compete at the age they will be by the 31^st of December 2026. So, if a child is currently 8, but turning 9 by the end of the year, they will compete in the 9/10-year-old age group.
• Although genders may be mixed for some groups, competitors are only competing against children of their own age and gender.
• Ribbons are awarded for 1^st, 2^nd & 3^rd for each event, with everyone who participates in an event, earning points for their ‘house’.

Students will also have the option of competing in the 800m, but this race will only be for students seeking to qualify for District. All events for 9–13-year-olds act as qualifying for the District Athletics Carnival, due to take place on Monday, August 24.

Generally, students who place first and second for their age group and gender, will qualify for District, but only the first placed competitor will qualify for high jump and 200m. At the District Carnival, competitors can enter 5 individual events and 1 relay.

Students can nominate to compete in the 1500m for Division at a later date; there are no 1500m events at House or District levels.

Please refer to the timetable included as a guide for the event. More information will be sent home in the coming weeks.
