Parent Survey
Our school is conducting the annual Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey offered by the Department of Education and is seeking your feedback. The survey is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behavior, and student engagement. The survey is optional, but we encourage and appreciate your participation.

Our school will use the survey results to assist in identifying areas for improvement and professional development needs in the school, to target school planning and improvement strategies.

The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey will be open online from Monday 17 August to Friday 18 September 2026.

The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones.  Survey results help inform annual and strategic planning for the school. A survey link and more information will be distributed via Compass.

Respect for School Staff
A growing problem across the State is negativity, aggression, undermining and unrealistic demands being made upon school staff (teaching and non-teaching). The Department of Education has strengthened their policies in this area. It is important to remember that all school staff want the same thing as you: a positive learning experience to help children achieve their potential. We will not tolerate aggressive behaviour or unrealistic demands on school staff. Just as wellbeing is a priority for children, it is also a priority for staff in our workplace. We believe that working in cooperation is always the best option and the best model to show our children.

The swimming program permission forms are now active on Compass. Please ensure you check the dates and times for your child’s class. On swimming days, children will need to bring an appropriate bag for their wet items. Please ensure your child brings:

• Swimmers
• Towel
• Goggles, if needed
• A suitable bag for wet items

Year 3/4 Urban Camp

Hallie Dowdle - consistently completing all activities to a very high standard as well as displaying leadership which has been recognised by those around you.

Vinnie Nicholl - for showing great perseverance in calculating some difficult maths when designing his probability game.

Pyjama Day
The Junior School Council had a very successful ‘Pyjama Day’ on Wednesday. Thanks to all the staff and students who participated and helped to raise $188.10. Some of this money is being used to fund the Cornhole Cup that is currently taking place, while the remainder of the money is going towards a special event in Term 4!

This year's theme is a 'Symphony of Stories', and the artwork to illustrate the idea of characters bursting out of a book with musical instruments was created by Briony Stewart, author/illustrator of 'Gymnastica Fantastica!' Students in Year 3/4 A, 2/3R and 3/4E have already started to read some of the short-listed books for the CBCA Awards in Art, creating artwork inspired by the wonderful illustrations and ideas presented by the authors and illustrators. YPS will celebrate Book Week later in the term, with a book character dress up day on Friday 18^th September, the very last day of term! There will be a 'symphony' of characters in procession for the traditional Yackandandah Book Character Parade at an assembly in the morning - parents, families and grandparents are most welcome to attend, followed by class art activities with a focus on the short-listed books - so make room for artwork to go up on the fridge! This is advanced notice for parents and students to start thinking about their favourite book character and to start inventing a colourful, tuneful costume. 

CALL FOR ARTISTS EOI Due Date Extended to Monday 31st August 2026!!

The Yackandandah Folk Festival Street Parade sub-committee is seeking a creative artist to design and curate the 30th Anniversary Opening Street Parade in March 2027.

This is a unique opportunity to work with representatives from four local schools, Kindergarten, community groups and businesses to create a vibrant, visually exciting parade. A suggested theme is ‘Neon 90’s’, or you may propose your own concept.

This paid role includes:

• Developing the parade’s creative direction
• Delivering two community workshops
• Collaborating with a highly engaged regional community

Artist fees are aligned with NAVA guidelines, with additional support for materials and venue provided.

Art Room Adventures!
It’s been a colourful couple of weeks in the Art Room, and things have been getting wonderfully abstract!

Our Year 5/6L and Year 5/6B artists have been busy creating small studies using paint pens and gouache, carefully applying their colours with flat watercolour brushes. Inspired by the fabulous Stephen Ormandy, these little artworks have been growing, changing and coming to life with every brushstroke. It has been amazing to watch their abstract ideas develop over the past two weeks!

House Athletics Wrap Up & Upcoming District Athletics Event
Last Thursday 13^th August, we had our House Athletics at the Albury, Les O’Brien Athletics Precinct.

Thank you again to the parents, BSC students and staff who assisted with the set-up, running of events and packing away of equipment at the end of the day. 

The House results were as follows:

1^st Wellsford, 498 points

2^nd Windham, 475 points

3^rd Hammond, 410 points

4^th Kars, 382 points

Congratulations to all competitors from Wellsford (red) House, and thanks to Will and Molly for their speech on behalf of Wellsford. Also, well done to everyone who participated on the day and to those who had a go at all events, even though some were really challenging.

Our District event is next Monday 24^th August at the Albury, Les O’Brien Athletics Precinct. Students who have qualified can participate in 5 events, plus the relay. I’ll have a meeting with all students later this week to confirm events discuss details regarding the event.

The permission forms will be available on Compass this week. Students will be travelling by bus and there will be a cost of $10 to cover bus expenses. There will be no canteen on the day, so like House Athletics, students are to take a packed lunch, snacks, a hat and water bottles.

Downhill Ski Day 14^th August – Falls Creek
Last Friday, 14th August, 42 students enjoyed perfect skiing conditions at Falls Creek. Students enjoyed learning a variety of techniques during their 1½-hour ski lesson, and they all managed to safely make their way back down the mountain.

We are incredibly grateful to our parent volunteers who helped supervise students and ensure each day ran smoothly. Your support has been greatly appreciated!

This year, we have been fortunate to enjoy three ski days in total – one dedicated to cross-country skiing and two to downhill skiing. It has been fantastic to see so many students embrace the opportunity to develop their skiing skills and enjoy the snow.

A huge thank you also to our staff, Caz and Earle, who supported the cross-country and downhill ski days. Your time, enthusiasm and support have been greatly appreciated!
