Our OSHC provider, Their Care, is running Vacation Care at Yackandandah Primary School over the Term Three holiday break. A flyer is in the OSHC section in this newsletter. I encourage families to use the service. If we can show there is an ongoing demand, we can ensure the ongoing provision of Vacation Care at our site.

The swimming program begins next week for the F/1, 3/4 and 2/3 classes. Please ensure your children have their swimming gear ready. Children in F/1 may need some practise organising their clothes, towel etc.

The swimming program permission forms are now active on Compass. Please ensure you check the dates and times for your child’s class. On swimming days, children will need to bring an appropriate bag for their wet items. Please ensure your child brings:

• Swimmers
• Towel
• Goggles, if needed
• A suitable bag for wet items

The cost of the swimming program is included in the family contributions that parents are invited to pay. If you haven't paid the contributions but would like to pay the swimming portion of it, the amount is $45 - please pay into the school bank account.

Year 3/4 Urban Camp
Wednesday 9th September – Friday 11th September

Thank you to everyone who has already completed the permission forms for the upcoming Year 3/4 Urban Camp.

Please be aware that payment will need to be made prior to the camp. If you require alternative payment arrangements, please contact Sandra to discuss your options.

Lost Property – The Mystery Pile Is Growing!
Our Lost Property cupboard is bursting at the seams! Jumpers, jackets and all sorts of bits and pieces are starting to pile up, and the cupboard is struggling to close.If your child is missing something, please pop in and have a look through the Lost Property to see if you can reunite them with their lost item.

 Second-Hand Uniforms
We also have a selection of second-hand uniforms available in the staff room for families to come and have a look through and take home if needed.

Get ready to step inside the pages of a book, because its Book Week! And this year, they’ve turned up the volume with the theme “A Symphony of Stories”! This year’s beautiful “Symphony of Stories” artwork was created by Briony Stewart, author and illustrator of Gymnastica Fantastica! Bringing to life the idea of book characters bursting out of their stories and into a world of music and imagination.

 Our students are already getting into the Book Week spirit! Students in 3/4A, 2/3R and 3/4E have begun exploring some of the CBCA Awards shortlisted books in Art, creating their own artwork inspired by the amazing ideas, illustrations, authors and illustrators behind these stories.

 To celebrate book week our Book Character Dress-Up Day will be held on Friday 18th September - the very last day of Term 3! We’re inviting all our students to start thinking about their favourite book character and, most importantly, start getting creative with their costumes! Will we see superheroes, magical creatures, adventurous explorers, cheeky characters or someone straight from the pages of a much-loved story?

The big finale!
Our morning will begin with the traditional Yackandandah Book Character Parade, where our wonderful characters will come together in a spectacular “symphony” of stories! Students will parade their costumes at our morning assembly, and parents, families and grandparents are very welcome to join us and cheer them on.

Then it’s time to get creative!
Classes will take part in special art activities inspired by the CBCA-shortlisted books. So, families, you might want to start making a little extra room on the fridge -  there will be plenty of wonderful artwork coming home!

So, YPS families… let the costume brainstorming begin!
Start thinking, start creating and start getting excited - because on Friday 18th September, our school will be bursting with stories, characters, colour, creativity and a whole lot of Book Week magic!

CALL FOR ARTISTS EOI Due Date Extended to Monday 31st August 2026!!

The Yackandandah Folk Festival Street Parade sub-committee is seeking a creative artist to design and curate the 30th Anniversary Opening Street Parade in March 2027.

This is a unique opportunity to work with representatives from four local schools, Kindergarten, community groups and businesses to create a vibrant, visually exciting parade. A suggested theme is ‘Neon 90’s’, or you may propose your own concept.

This paid role includes:

• Developing the parade’s creative direction
• Delivering two community workshops
• Collaborating with a highly engaged regional community

Artist fees are aligned with NAVA guidelines, with additional support for materials and venue provided.

After making a whimsical 'Dear Broccoli' collage, and using our imagination, it was the perfect opportunity to focus on drawing a 'still life' collection. Drawing from a 'still life' collection of lemons, oranges and a pumpkin, students in Year 3/4A, 3/4E and 2/3R had to focus on drawing from direct observation, trying to look for shadows, using contrasting colours, overlapping, hatching and cross-hatching techniques. It is worth noting that the drawings were created in only 5 or 10 minutes duration! 

A remarkable effort!!!

We are still very short on September 4 and  11, please reach out if you can help, even if you can only do an hour - we are happy to split the volunteer shifts. 

Hot Lunch Volunteer Roster, Term 3: 

District Athletics Carnival

On Monday, 24th August, we had 37 students represent our school at the District Athletics Carnival, held at the Les O’Brien Athletics Precinct in Albury.

A big thank you goes to Brendan and my parent helpers Shelby, Bridget, Stew and student helper, Kinu, who assisted with setting up the sport equipment – your assistance is greatly appreciated. Thanks to Bridget who helped with the packing away of the equipment.

We now have 31 students progressing to the Division Athletics, and I wish them all the very best as they move on to the next stage of competition.

Upcoming Division Athletics Event

The Division Athletics event is scheduled for Thursday, 17^th September at the Les O’Brien Athletics Precinct in Albury. The back-up date is Friday, 18^th September.

I will meet with all students who have qualified for this event next week, and the event timetable (provided by the Division Coordinator) is included below.

Permission forms and payment are now available on Compass. Students will travel to the venue by bus at 8:30am and will be accompanied by Lauren and myself.

Please note that there will be no canteen available on the day. As with our House and District Athletics events, students will need to bring a packed lunch, snacks, a hat, and plenty of water.

9:15am     Districts/Schools assemble in marked areas (Opening)

9:20am.  -  1500 metres (10 girls, 10 boys, 11 girls, etc.)

Straight after 1500m:    Hurdles (10 girls, 10 boys, 11 girls, etc.)

The starting times are above. Please allow approximately half an hour between events. Event 3 to start as close to 10.30a.m. as possible.

Event 10     Relays 4 x 100 m  (10 girls, 10 boys, 11 girls  etc.)

Downhill Ski Day 21^st August – Falls Creek

Last Friday, 21^st August, 40 students enjoyed their final skiing day at Falls Creek. Students enjoyed learning a variety of techniques during their 1½-hour ski lesson, and they all managed to safely make their way back down the mountain.

We are incredibly grateful to our parent volunteers who helped supervise students and ensure each day ran smoothly. Your support has been greatly appreciated!

This year, we have been fortunate to enjoy three ski days in total – one dedicated to cross-country skiing and two to downhill skiing. It has been fantastic to see so many students embrace the opportunity to develop their skiing skills and enjoy the snow.

A huge thank you also to our staff, Caz and Earle, who supported the cross-country and downhill ski days. Your time, enthusiasm and support have been greatly appreciated!
