From the Principal

Our Yr. 3/4 students and staff come home from their school camp today. They have been in Melbourne since Wednesday. The students have visited a variety of venues and had some wonderful experiences. While school camps are becoming increasingly more expensive, we do the best we can to minimise the cost to families while maximising the benefit for students.

Next week our T-Ball team is travelling to Melbourne to take part in the State finals. What an amazing effort to get there! The team, supported by some very dedicated parents, have been practising in the lead up and are looking forward to the experience. Huge thanks to all the parents who have supported to team with practices and who are accompanying the team to Melbourne. It could happen without your support.

The swimming program concludes today. The travel in and out can take a chunk of a day out of classes, but equipping children with a potentially lifesaving skill is an important task. I have been highly impressed with the conduct and behaviour of the students as they interact with the swim teachers and general public at the Leisure Centre Wodonga. Well done for living the school values!

Student Awards

Congratulations to all our award recipients.

WE ARE FAIR

Willis Hogg - for always bringing a ‘vibe’, whether it’s through his humour in class, his commentary at PADSIP, or the mini-speaker on bus trips to swimming.

WE ARE LEARNERS

Max Bebbington -for his enthusiasm when learning about some wonderful/pointless animals in our world. You are wonderful at sharing your knowledge of the animal world.

George Booth - for using some great vocabulary and interesting sentence structures in your story based on Queenie the Bantam. It was an impressive piece of writing!

Phoebe Moore - taking on the challenge of telling time to half past on both analogue and digital clocks. You took the time to understand the process,  not just remember the numbers. Well done!

Nate Millward - For absolutely smashing the Times Tables Rock Stars competition! Your dedication, speed and accuracy were outstanding. You should be incredibly proud of your hard work—what a maths superstar!

Thomas Killen - For writing a thoughtful and detailed analysis of your Maths Carnival game. You clearly explained your results and reflected on what worked well. Fantastic mathematical thinking, Thomas!

Evie Burson - for demonstrating excellence in English, with particular achievement in her creative writing and contributions to our class novel discussions.

Ollie Reyes - for her excellent research skills when finding information about the Coati. You did a great job finding out its scientific name, diet and interesting facts.

WE SHOW RESPECT

Indi Stagg -for her positive attitude to all things at school and swimming. You work hard, respect yourself and classmates and give your best. Well done!

Eddie Booth -  being an effective listener during class discussions and always being read to answer questions when called on

Grace Gadd - displaying respectful behaviours during instruction time and offering interesting insights and ideas with the class

Book Character Dress-Up Day

To celebrate book week our Book Character Dress-Up Day will be held on Friday 18th September - the very last day of Term 3! We’re inviting all our students to start thinking about their favourite book character and, most importantly, start getting creative with their costumes! Will we see superheroes, magical creatures, adventurous explorers, cheeky characters or someone straight from the pages of a much-loved story?

The big finale!
Our morning will begin with the traditional Yackandandah Book Character Parade, where our wonderful characters will come together in a spectacular “symphony” of stories! Students will parade their costumes at our morning assembly, and parents, families and grandparents are very welcome to join us and cheer them on.

Then it’s time to get creative!
Classes will take part in special art activities inspired by the CBCA-shortlisted books. So, families, you might want to start making a little extra room on the fridge -  there will be plenty of wonderful artwork coming home!

So, YPS families… let the costume brainstorming begin!
Start thinking, start creating and start getting excited - because on Friday 18th September, our school will be bursting with stories, characters, colour, creativity and a whole lot of Book Week magic!

Second-hand Book Sale

Calling all book lovers!

To celebrate Book Week, we’re holding a Second-Hand Book Sale on Friday 18th September during Recess, from 1:45pm–2:30pm.

Bring along your spare change and grab yourself a pre-loved book (or two… or three!). With books priced from just 10¢ to $2, there’s something for everyone!

Every book purchased helps us raise money for our school library, so you can discover a great read while supporting our library at the same time!

Come along, browse, choose a book and help us give some much-loved stories a new home!

Artwork of the Week

After studying and drawing a still life collection over the past few weeks, Yayoi Kusama was the perfect artist to focus on and segway into looking at sculpture. Japanese artist, Yayoi Kusama, was known for her bright colour schemes, polka dots, repetitious patterns, infinity mirror rooms and giant sculptural forms, in particular pumpkin motifs! Students in Year 3/4A, 3/2R and 3/4E constructed two pumpkins, one made out of coloured paper and one by scrunching up newspaper in a brown paper bag and then using elastic bands to form the segmented shapes. A shout out to Macey and Sloane in 3/4A, who made smaller paper pumpkins by accident, thereby starting a mini-pumpkin-paper-making craze!!!

Artworks by: Macey, Sloane, Josie, Riley and Georgia D.

Public sculpture by Yayoi Kusama, Pumpkin, 2024, bronze and paint, UK
